Should a copywriter stick to one niche, or it is better to have more than one niche?

Bob Bly answers this question precisely MsConnie in this manner... "Be a specialist in at least one area but also take on general assignments when they come. You can specialize in a subject (e.g., health care) or a medium (e.g., direct mail). I do both. I am a business-to-business marketing specialist, and I also specialize in direct mail." I hope this provides you with the answer you're looking for. Best, Pete Walker |

Send your email over to my pm box and I'll send you the rest of the info MsConnie. It was quite a coincidence you posting your question up at precisely that moment because not more than 10 minutes before I was reading some of Bob Bly's material over at The Professional Writers Alliance run by AWAI. The info you're looking for is still open in another tab, so I can send it to you immediately. Kindest regards, Pete |

I think just like Pete Mentioned above the best thing to do would be to concentrate on a niche and everything else on the side. I specialize in writing and marketing white papers, but I also write a lot of other marketing materials like sales pages, press releases, email copy on a regular basis. I wholeheartedly agree with Mitt and Pete (and Bob Bly). Specializing in a particular niche or project type can help build credibility by positioning you as an expert. At the same time, I wouldn't want to pigeonhole myself into a single focus. Being versatile will allow you to keep your workload interesting while diversifying your income.
