Default I Shouldn't Be Asking This Here...

I know I shouldn’t be asking this here – but I’ve never dared venture into the other “technical” forums.

A client asked me “What is ClickBank gravity?” and I had no idea.

So, if you could tell me what it is, what it does and how do I find it for products on ClickBank.

I would be ever so grateful.

(I did try a search but couldn't quite get a complete answer).

Steve, here's the definition from Clickbank's documentation:

Quote:
Gravity: Number of distinct affiliates who earned a commission by referring a paying customer to the vendor's products. This is a weighted sum and not an actual total. For each affiliate paid in the last 8 weeks we add an amount between 0.1 and 1.0 to the total. The more recent the last referral, the higher the value added.

Simply put,Clickbank Gravity is a weighted measure of how affiliates are improving in the marketplace, and how the product is faring.
A product with high Gravity indicates the high rate of demand in the market, this also means a nearly fierce competition for promoters.
Hope this helps.

The definitions above clarify it, but dont expect a new product to have a lot of gravity..it takes time!

As a copywriter it will affect you in the long run......if you've written the sales letter of a product and the gravity has gone up by now, then that is something that you can use to get more clients....

No...

Gravity is an indication of how much competition there is. It measures the number of affiliates who have each made one or more sales over the previous 8 weeks. Each affiliate gets, effectively, a “score” between 0.1 and 1.0 (according to when they made their last sale, but not according to the quantity they sold) and the total is the product's gravity figure.

gravity is essentially the popularity of a product. Anything +10 is usually selling. Anything plus 100 is HOT. However these have greater competition as well.

In my opinion, as an exact statistical measure, the gravity number is fairly meaningless.

First, it doesn't measure how many copies have been sold. It measures how many "distinct affiliates" have sold at least one copy.

Second, the number is weighted towards recent activity (the last eight weeks) which may or may not be significant.

The best way to use gravity is to watch it over a long period of time and compare it to other products in the niche.

I think that Clickbank's gravity is useful when you are thinking about starting to promote a new product, because it shows what is selling and what is not. But this is only a very general indication, and the actual 'sellability' of a product depends on many other factors such as season, competitive pricing, sales page, etc. If possible keep a record of the gravity fluctuations for the product you are interested in for, say, 2 or 3 months, to see if it still looks a good bet.

I am successfully promoting products that have gravity that used to be over 30 but now are less then 1 (perhaps I am the only affiliate making sales!) but, hey, a sale is a sale

Thanks so much everyone.

Just one more question (sincere apologies for being so technically dense).

How do I find the "gravity" of a product?
