Default Copywriter? Here's Plan II For Big Money

Ok, here's how to make big money if you're a copywriter looking for work.

If you folllow this simple plan, you'll have more contacts and business referrals than you can imagine.

1. Start a website dealing with your local area.

Buy a domain name -- you can buy one from Yahoo for $1.99.

Call it something with your cities name in it.

You can host it on Hostgator free for 30 days -- works till you get money coming in and you have to start paying.

Example: New York Talks Back.

Now: Here's the plaln -- You're now official...you've got a name behind you.

Contact local businesses and ask to interview them, etc. for your website -- nobody will turn you down -- remember, it's all for the website.

Do an interview and ask them how they're dealing with the market nowadays, etc.

Use your imagination!

Think about this...the possibilities are up to your imagination.

Do some interviews on the street...you can use your phone for pictures, etc...it gets people to tune into your website.

People love to see themselves, or read about themselves.

Just by having a website and asking local businesses for interviews (which they'll all accept), gives you an instant doorway to talk about their other business needs.

This is an idea that can generate big money for any copywriter.

This is a simple idea, but will bring you so many opportunities that you won't be able to handle them all.

Just a quick idea to generate customers.

Plan I, I'm saving for later.

I'm a very new copywriter and I actually found this really interesting!

When you said nobody will turn you down I was rather reluctant to believe you until you mentioned ask them about how they are dealing with the market.

I LOVE THIS because now that I think about it, if I was a business owner getting publicity on a website would definitely help business and I would probably be able to myself get more information on where the market is headed from the interviewer.

I really appreciate this post.

Very good idea, who doesn't love free publicity? Any local business would be excited to do something like this. Doesn't have to be very long either, just a 5-10 minute interview and you are on to the next one. Thanks for sharing.

But a new website won't have much traffic or credibility. Wouldn't this affect the owners' willingness to spend time giving an interview?

It's actually called hyperlocal, it's a growing trend to have niche websites that deal with a local area -- been talked about a lot in all the major news outlets.

A business owner loves free publicity -- and as I said, it gets your foot in the door to offer other services.

Who cares about SEO?

You're only dealing with your area.

Here's an example of a local site.

This site is out of the state of Washington...I have no affiliation with it...it's just an example.

Check out all the ads. They cost about $400.00 a month to run, depending on the size of the ad.

First, another quick tip.

Remember when the craze was to sell websites to local businesses?

Now everything is going mobile.

You can help your local businesses get on board.

Lots of businesses don't have a QR code...you can build them free and charge.

These allow anyone to take their smart phone and scan the code...then get taken to their website.

Here's where you can build them:

QR-Code Generator

Think about the possibilities.

I learned this little tip from Montello's weekly talk.

Marketing... copywriting... and all things related to making your business more profitable.

Anyways, here's a local site that's making things work.

The B-Town (Burien) Blog | Named "Best Hyperlocal Website" in the Northwest by Society of Professional Journalists

There's a lot of possibilities out there...you just have to start taking advantage of them.

If you're a copywriter waiting for someone to come and knock on your shack...you're losing out on some great ideas.

Good question...thanks for asking

It is surely true that having a website helps bring in copywriting business. Until a writer does that, they are at the mercy of other people's rates. Having your own website allows you to set your rates and call the shots. After all, it is YOUR time and your business!
