First let me say that I just recently stated reading the threads in the Copywriting forum and I've found a lot of useful information and entertaining threads. That being said I'm looking for help in a specific area that may or may not need someone with copywriting skills. I'd like to know if the group thinks this warrants the skills of a good copywriter or not. If it does, then consider me in the market looking. I have a setup a blog that is promoting a specific affiliate product that I have several articles on as well. I've neen sending traffic exclusively from articles to that blog and have been getting decent sales from it. Most of the articles I have used are getting 40-50% CTR to the blog/landing page. Of those I am converting at about 1:70. Not terrible but not great. I'm getting about 150-200 hits a day to that site so I get a few sales each day. I know I can get better conversions and have no trouble driving targetted traffic to it, but I think it needs an overhaul. Basically what I'm looking for is someone who can do 2 things for me in the short term 1) Update the blog/landing page that I have to make it "sell" the affiliate product better 2) Write me 1 well written pre-sell article that goes hand in hand with the updated blog/landing page This could turn into a larger effort as if it works well I would definitely want more high quality articles written and similar blog/landing pages setup for other niches. Now, while I'm not looking for $5 articles, I'm also not looking for a $5,000 sales page. The system I have works pretty well as is I just need help with the writing and conversions and am willing to pay for that help but also keep it simple and targeted. Thoughts/comments/questions? Thanks gang |

I think you need two writers - one copywriter for the sales page and another to write the articles you need.

Copywriters charge more - ones who know what they are doing do anyway. Most good copywriters are able to write articles, but they charge prices you might not want to pay for articles. Bargain articles can be had for $7 or less each, sometimes much less. You often get what you pay for - cheap prices usually means sloppy writing and sometimes a vague grasp of English, but not always. Sales copywriting is a specific creative trade skill. It's a branch of salesmanship and successfull practitioners get a lot of specific reading under their belts. You can of course read the same books, but it might take you quite a while. Practice is a big factor too. All in all copywriting is a professional skill while article writing is generally just a commodity skill. Some better writers follow the money from articles into writing copy, though in my opinion it would be diffciult to learn to be a good copywriter if you had never done any selling on the phone or in person. |

I've done sales in person but writing copy is much more technical. If you cover every single objection you raise negatives they may never have thought of, if you don't you can miss the one that loses the sales. Heck, talking to people is easy; they tell you what their objections are, can be led into agreeing on a sale if the objection is overcome etc. If I could get a 30% + hit rate online I'd be picking my favorite tropical island right now... It sounds as though you need a content writer who can write persuasively Though I will admit--I am a little bit confused. Do you have a blog or a landing page that needs punching up? Those are two things that do not usually sit on either side of a single slash. |

It is a blog, but its being used as a landing page. Its got several articles on it already but I use a specific post as the main page that I use as the equivalent of a landing page, just on a blog.

No, you don't necessarily need two writers. I often do add-on elements like autoresponders and articles with sales page and landing page projects at reduced rates (but not $5 LOL!) because the research is pretty much done. I tried PM'ing you but I guess I don't have enough posts here yet! Tracy |

Dude definatly hire different people for copywriting and article writing. No good copywriters do article writing because they're making way more off of copywriting. You will get a wayy better deal if you hire the best copywriter you can for your price range and then hire $7 article writers. |

But there are plenty of good copywriters out there who will also do an article to drive traffic to the landing page. Like I said before, if you've already done a lot of research to write the sales page, writing an article is easy. And many clients appreciate the convenience and consistency of having both done in one place. Abe asked whether the skills are mutually exclusive. Copywriting is a specialized skill. So I would not hire an article writer to write copy. My point was that a copywriter is certainly able to write articles as well if they choose to do so. But as Loren said, the article may not be at the prices you're looking for. Tracy | |

It sounds like you can do it yourself - and for the price you're gonna pay, which sounds like a couple hundred dollars at most, whoever you hire probably won't beat your CTR. If I were you I'd create a landing page with your TOP converting article vs. constantly uploading new articles where you don't what kind of results you're going to get. If you want to keep the site fresh for SEO purposes simply add a blog at /blog and upload content til your hearts content. Then work on tweaking your landing page. I'd focus on these three elements (listed in order of importance) 1. Headline 2. First 2-3 sentences 3. Curiosity/Reason Why |

If you are looking to increase your traffic and conversions. Hiring someone to update the blog and write your articles may be beneficial especially if you want to move on to other projects. Usually a percentage of what the site makes can be used to cover the cost of outsourcing the work.

thats where my thought process is going. 8) Actually back to OnlineMasterMind's post, I forgot to mention that I do have a static front page for the blog so any new article is just rotating in separate. There's a feature in wordpress to point your home page to a specific page on the blog and make it static. 8) |
