Default Solar Power Thunder Thighs

I'm looking at solar panels on eBay
and just found what I want...

...a 200w solar panel to fix on top of
my 'motorhome' in preparation for my
big European trip.

Going through the sales blurb, I'm not
quite sure about this image, what it's
supposed to do for my emotional
frustration and pain trying to find
the best solar panels for my needs.

Perhaps you can explain the logic
behind the image?...

What has thunder thighs got to do
with the solar panel in the desert?

I mean if it was for Duracell batteries
I could understand the connection.

They're both taking advantage of the sun...

The person who used the font for the print should be shot.

Mark,

The marketing logic is the attractive model is meant to draw attention to the eye. And to associate good feelings to the product.

It's done all the time, even when the product has nothing to do with attractive women.

You'll especially see it in full execution at really boring tradeshows where a company will hire beautiful "representatives" to answer people's questions as they walk pass the exhibit.

There are actually companies that hire college girls specifically for these short gigs.

Gary Halbert a long time ago did something similar. He'd have a photographer take pictures of willing college-age girls. These pictures would be sold under the theory that including a beautiful girl in the ad significantly improved conversions.

Looks like the eBay ad got your attention, yes?

Hmmm evoke good feelings in me? But she's in the bleedin' middle of the bloody desert. Her minge is going to be about as dry as sandpaper out there. Hot maybe but entice me to buy?

On this occasion... not on your bloomin' nelly Rick.

Obviously I can see the logic of what you're saying and admittedly, she is rather dishy but nevertheless, when I'm thinking of buying solar panels the last thing I'm thinking about are hot women.

Cheers!

Appealing to only men and lesbians is a rather outdated way of reaching the target market with something as broad spectrum as solar panels, don't you think?

Men's club? Bring on the babes! Beer? I can understand why there's T&A. Solar panels? Not so much.

The example I remember is Gary talking about copy relating to tax preparation or tax preparation info. They tested with and without an an attractive woman and conversion were significantly higher on ads with a picture of the model.

The conversions were so significant, Gary built out the modeling/photography service.

I suppose you could use the whole "men want her and women want to be her" argument. Though I have no desire to bed her nor be her. Being in a bathing suit splayed across a solar panel is not my idea of a fun Saturday afternoon.

I must admit (and testing proves it) since switching out from Sally McPherson (the cross dresser) my conversion rate has plummeted here in comparison.

So maybe, just maybe you do have a point.

Apparently the boys here found me quite fetching. Go figure.

Mark grins broadly.

How about you Rick? Did you find me more attractive back then?

Check out the demographics. 73% of individuals interested in buying solar panels are men.

Mark, you're always good for a laugh or two.

The second "babe" kinda kills the attraction factor.

Maybe he was angling at the sun, sand, and bikinis concept.

Except this babe looks a little far from the beach.

(Mark, didn't I see her in one of your photos in the cove at Trebah Garden? A little photoshop and wham, bam, she's a solar sex object. The font's gotta go though.)

I've got it. Since you're upgrading your mini-van's solar panel, she can be your hood ornament.

Seriously though, not too bad...the eyebrows look a little "high"...maybe you could tone down the mascara just a tad also.

Funny how we can learn things about people on this forum we would have never suspected
