Hi D Lee,

There is a golden rule of copywriting - your copy can never be too long, just too boring. I've written successful 30+ page sales letters and there are 50+ page letters that do really well. That's what Vin is saying you'll find in other places, because its true.

The other thing is that it doesn't matter what you think of long form letters. They work, people buy from them. If they didn't work nobody would use them. Of course if you can say everything you need to sell your product in a shorter letter, that's how long it should be: as long as it takes to tell your sales message.

The best combination is video and a long form sales letter. That's what all the big name marketers are using. Videos really help the sales process and do increase conversions when done right.

You're asking the wrong question.

What you should be asking is, "Do I have the skills to write a letter that sells my offer?"
...whether its longer or shorter is not relevant.

And there the old saying:
"sales letter should be like a woman's skirt...long enough to cover all the essentials, but short enough to keep the interest."

I've used short sales letters and made over $30,000 with each one .. I've used long sales letters and had less sales. The shorter sales letter converted better, but it could be due to my style of writing and not the length..

My advice is to start writing and just end where you end. Put yourself in the shoes of your customer and if it works, leave it be.

There really are no set rules when it comes to sales page copywriting, at least I don't know of any, and I don't abide by any

Hope this helps

A lot of people looking for low-cost or something-for-nothing
biz-ops operate at about a 3rd grade level of literacy and
attention span. If you are bottom-fishing write dumb and
short, with hype.

If your product is a more thoughtful decision put everything
that needs to be said about it in your letter.

Joe Sugarman covers this topic well in his 1st 2 copywriting
books.

Long doesn't matter if the product is short on value. Short doesn't matter if the content is long on fluff.

After getting a ton of offers in my email, I find that I end up deleting the ones that have long sales pages. I do read the short ones all the way through and find they can be very effective.

Even better try to include a video. The traditional method of writing is all that effective anymore.
First... I'm assuming you meant "isn't all that effective." If that is what you meant then wow... you're so wrong. Millions upon millions of dollars are made every single day with the "traditional method of writing..."
