Anyone have any ads from this mag, please?

I'm looking for anything on martial arts (duh).

Thanks.

I don't get the point of posts like this. I know what the magazine is, hence the reason for asking for it.

And no one else has asked what it is.

If you want to get your post count up at least contribute something worthwhile.

    This is why... (I'm assuming)

    Black Belt - Google Books

World Famous Street Fighter Will Give You a FREE Gun... Just to prove he can take it away from you bare-handed as easy as candy from a baby

It is, the last time it was discussed on the forum the man himself joined in.

If you're after more of that type of pitch, your best bet's TRS Direct. It looks like they've changed the site up a bit but you can still find most of the original sales pages by using the "site" Google operator (site:FightFast.com).

There are more in a similar style here:

Self Defense Products | Tim Larkin | Martial Arts Products - Target Focus Training

(In a Clayton Makepeace product - Extreme Promotion Makeovers, I think - he does an in-depth critique on a Target Focus Training sales letter, worth a watch if you can find it.)

          Thanks, Andrew.

Problem with JC's copy is that the ad tends to be better than the product.

I've seen some of the stuff he writes for - e.g. the Tim Larkin stuff - and they're not up to the hype.

He also wrote an ad for combat JKD. I've seen the video and it's nowhere near as good as the ad.

          Maybe I'm just spoiled.

BTW, where is the thread of the discussion you mention?

Edit: Never mind. I found it.

Clayton actually reviews two self defense letters in his "Kick it to the Curb" product if I recall correctly. I know for certain he does one, but for some reason I'm thinking it's two. I have been moving all my office stuff around so I'll have to dig it up to double check.

Yeah, some of his "no need to practice, just watch this tape once and you'll automatically become a ninja master" stuff is approaching parody.

He reviews four letters, each in a different niche: real estate, self-defense, travel photography, and health.

I consulted on some of those Tim Larkin ads.

Let me tell you - they worked.

I don't think anyone's doubting the quality of the ads. I know how successful they were/are.

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a fan of JC's work. I've learned a lot off him.

My problem is with the products...

I'm a martial arts instructor. Have been training for over thirty years.

My gripe is the systems those guys teach are a load of tripe. And I'm trying to be nice.

And, yes, I have seen them.

The copywriter's job is to sell.

            That's what John's ads did.

              Umm, yep. That's true.

              And I never criticised John.

Like you say, his job is to sell.

And if his client claims certain things, then obviously John's going to write it.

              The fault lies with client.

And, who knows, maybe there are people out there - very likely - who do think the material is up to the hype.

Maybe I'm just spoiled because of my background.

One of my favorite free learning tools has been the copy critiques that Peter Stone does.

Here is a link to one that he did for a self defense/martial arts product if you are interested.
