Tip How To Hire The Right Copywriter For Your Job!

Hiring copywriters can be difficult. If you've done it before, you know that just as well as I do.

Price isn't the only issue these days. With the masses of qualified copywriters out there, how can you decide which one can produce the best copy for you?

Here are a few questions to ask your potential copywriter.
  1. How long have you been writing direct-response copy?
  2. What niches do you have the most experience in?
  3. Do you have any samples that I can see for my niche?
  4. Can I see a few testimonials from past clients?
  5. What results have your clients seen from your letters?
  6. How long do sales letters usually take to craft?

Keep in mind this is not the end-all be-all list of questions to ask. Your situation will always dictate what information you'll need to get before spending $2,000 on a copywriter. This will definitely get you pushed off in the right direction though.

What other questions would you ask?

A good question is:

What will happen if I am not satisfied with the job you did for me?

Will you rewrite it?

Give me my money back?

Etc.

To which one might reply - "What will happen if the sales copy you're not satisfied with, gives you a 50:1 R.O.I. when you TEST it?"

That was a good one!

Another thing -- Though most people may not get this,
the copywriter NOT having written for your niche before
can actually be a good thing.

Um... you'll never hire me again. You'll bitch to your internet buddies... and it'll hurt the reputation I've busted my ass to maintain.

You said it Vin, why do people think copywriters with reputations would submit second rate work to a client?

These are good questions.
On the other hand, hiring someone with
too much experience has its drawbacks.

I do believe that in business, you need some fresh
perspective in order to stand out and win attention.
A copywriter with less experience might look at your
business from a fresh perspective and come up with
some great ideas that might propel your company forward.

Copywriters with too much experience have a jaded mind,
stale beliefs and deeply engraved habits that might work
against them.

We need something fresh. Fresh ideas, fresh perpective,
fresh approach. You need to freshen-up your business,
your operations and your marketing strategies!
That's how you differentiate yourself.

I have read about a woman who got into the food business
with little or no experience. Now she is saying that a lack of
experience had worked to her advantage. Weird as it may sound.

PS: You should also rely on your instincts.
It's okay to ask questions, trying to dig up more
information about the copywriter. But sometimes, all
you have to do is rely on your instincts and your "inner
voice". It will tell you what to do and who to hire.

I like to ask "Will you give me various versions of the headline to test?"

Although freshness is crucial, copy has proven steps that only experience will provide.

If the copywriter tries to "reinvent the wheel" the results might not be as good as they could.

If a copywriter has been producing for 10 years and what he has done has produced results, well yeah, they will have those habits deeply engraved, this is because they have worked!

If you find a good copywriter, this is definitely something they should do. With all my copy I offer to set up split testing for free.

Instead of straight revenue-sharing (which seasoned copywriters would sink their teeth into, but may hit your bottom line too hard) consider a bonus for "x" results achieved.
