I'm thinking about creating an auction site where business owners go to get their copy critiqued. How many would be interested in getting involved? I need all of your input before I move forward. The idea is to adopt an elance or guru.com-type model with an escrow setup, but specifically for copywriting where there's no searching or wondering if someone has a job posted somewhere. Thanks for your ideas and input. Steve Rodriguez |

You may want to know there are such sites. 99Copywriters was just recently announced here. These sites are designed one way and one way only, design, programming, what have you. To see why copywriters would not want to join read this. It's about logo design, but roughly the same principles apply. There is absolutely no reason for every single site to be designed to foster this dysfunctional behavior -- they just are. So, simply, it's already been done, badly. Specifically for copywriters. Many, many times. Your personal belief yours will somehow be different does not change one inevitable, small, fact: Everybody says that and nobody ever is different. |

The problem I see with this model is that the only people who will bid on critiques are bottom feeders without much skill - because as soon as they have any skill, they'll realize that they can charge more elsewhere and move on from your site. Because of that, business owners won't pay much for a critique here - which will make the above issue even worse, since most people won't be able to make any kind of living off the site, they'll leave for greener pastures - leaving only ESL article writers critiquing sales copy. Then the site will die. Or people like this guy (http://www.warriorforum.com/copywriting-forum/84071-copywriter-needed-sales-page.html) will take it over. Either way, it will slowly turn into a money pit and a hassle. Good luck if you do try it, though... |
