  • I love the opportunity to hear basically anything from John Carlton.

IMO, he's the best copywriter currently in the game. I just downloaded one of his reports... Loving it.

What I like most about him is the personality he puts into everything he writes; you really get the sense of this grizzled veteran ex hippie who doesn't take anything too seriously.

BTW, he recently wrote a post dealing with this same topic of generations (boomers, millennials and all that):

Sometimes I feel guilty cuz, as a Baby Boomer, I got to straddle two amazing worlds -- the completely unhinged 60s and 70s (with classic rock, punk and budding alt as the soundtrack)...

... and the off-the-charts arrival of the Web and high-tech lifestyles in the 90s and 00s. I adapted early and well to each upheaval in the culture -- mostly by accident, but sometimes through sheer audacity. What a raucous, joy-filled ride.

But it's also bittersweet, because I know what we've lost with this new tech-filled culture. Smart phones make life easier, and sometimes fun... but not "better", by any stretch. Something was gained, but much was lost, too.

I think this sense of loss is what fuels the nostalgia craze -- everything from Mad Men, to the comic book movies, to the refusal of classic rock to be consigned to history's dustbin. But we'll never successfully communicate any of what was lost to the fresh generations taking over. Such is life -- you can study history, and still not grok it meaningfully. Each new wave of folks needs to find their own loves, tragedies, triumphs and waterloo's.

The Boomers I know do not resent current culture. We sincerely hope Millennials catch a break in the economy (and I'm doing my best to share biz advice so that happens).

I was a happy hippie, and I've transformed into a happy biz owner. I can embrace bitter-sweet. And I can still enjoy sticking it to The Man, while listening to Forever Changes for the millionth time.

If I ever get around to writing this damned auto-biography, maybe you'll better understand the value in what has been lost in the tech sunami. But mostly, it'll just be other Boomers who grok it...

Most people don't realize what a big role Brian plays in the podcast. Heck, I didn't even know until I started working back stage with these guys a couple months ago.

Techie... musician... marketer. I swear there's nothing this guy can't do... and absolutely crush it.

    Thanks for the mention, Joe.

Full Disclosure: I publish PI4MM.com for Kevin and John as a labor of love and mutual respect. James has come on board with us to help keep the machine running now that I'm mostly sure it won't catch on fire and kill us all.

It's a lot of fun for everyone and we'll keep doing them as long as people keep enjoying them (and it stays fun).

    Brian

      Thanks, James.
