Hi there, im new here and i don't know if i am in the right place to ask this but I need some help so here it goes. So me and a couple friends came up with a commercial ideia that could be a hit with a company that produces tablets/phones, we did our research and there is nothing like our ideia out there and we really belive this could be a sucess. The dilema is this, we were thinking about contacting the company and tell them about it, but we are affraid of doing that without some sort of insurance, if you know what i mean, so what do you guys think is the best thing to do here? Is there any way we can register a publicity/commercial ideia?

You're asking about inventing - in the CopyWRITING forum.

This isn't about intellectual property, it's about writing sales copy for advertisements.

But lucky you... you bopped into someone who knows way too much about your question.

I'm going to be very blunt, which you can either stomp your feet about or listen to very carefully... your call.

Good ideas are a dime a dozen... worthless unless commercialized by either producing and selling the end product yourself or securing a licensing agreement from a company who will produce and sell the product in exchange for certain exclusivities and compensation to the licensor (that's you) in the form of royalties.

Major manufacturers and large tech companies are constant targets for frivolous, misguided, even malicious infringement and business tort claims. Consequently, it's extremely difficult to approach them cold with an improvement or new "commercial idea".

Without a patent, you have very little to offer.

With a patent, you're still in line with many thousands of other hopeful would-be licensors wanting their consideration.

Get yourself a copy of David Pressman's "Patent It Yourself" and learn what you're really trying to do.

Patent It Yourself - Do-It-Yourself Legal Book - Nolo

If you can't be arsed to do even that much, shelf it and save yourself a lot of heartache.

What you ought to do is to make a pre-contract that states that by presenting your idea you do not renounce your copyright. If they decide to use it without your accord you can sue them. Also, register the idea, make it your own, make a business plan named after yourselves or something like that. Well, in the end, it all depends on what idea it is, how unique it ism how much is it worth it and all. Everything is relative.

      1. You are not a damn lawyer.

      2. AN IDEA IS NOT COPYRIGHTABLE.

Let's all repeat that together kids. You'll NEVER get a copyright for or legally be able protect an idea.

You CAN copyright and protect the EXECUTION of that idea.

Two movies about people who repossess human organs can both legally COEXIST.

Why? Because each of them is a different EXECUTION of the SAME IDEA.

In other words, there are a million different ways the same idea can be brought into physical existence. ONLY YOURS is copyrightable. You cannot own everyone else's.

P.S. Being worried that someone will steal your idea is a newbie flag. Might as well tattoo "I don't know what I'm doing" on your forehead.

The idea at this stage of your career is "fake it until you make it". Imitate success.

Quite frankly, most business people you solicit will be way too busy to even read your proposal let alone steal your shit. If you're worried about them stealing your shit, do some crowdfunding to get the ****** built, then file for a patent. THEN approach companies for backing.

This is just about the stupidest answer I have ever seen given here, and there is a LOT of stupidity floating around. So, congratulations on that.

To the OP, I have to echo the other answers given above.

Let me just reiterate the point that your idea, no matter how brilliant, is utterly worthless unless/until you do something about it.

No action = no value, therefore nothing worth protecting.

If you are afraid to act, then I agree that you should just walk away. You will probably never accomplish anything entrepreneurial in your life with that attitude. But the world isn't big enough for everyone to be an entrepreneur.

If you can figure out how to make something that is compatible with other products out there, you don't need their permission to make it and sell it. Just do it. Do it before someone else does, and devote yourself to making it work.

      You own it.

Otherwise, yeah. Forget about it. Not easy work, changing the world.

    .
I suggest we be a bit more charitable. TripleScan was just trying to be helpful. Maybe it wasn't the best advice in the world, but the original post is a little naive also.

Diogo - take a look at Registered Works: - https://www.registeredworks.com It's a site where you can register and record your ideas, files and other IP ( intellectual property.) It's patterned after a site I put together about 10 years ago called ArchiveVault.com - < http://crowdfunderservices.com >

Both Safari and Firefox won't load that registeredworks site. "Can't verify the identity. Certificate expired. You might be connecting to a site that is pretending to be......which could put your confidential information at risk".

    Rather ironic.

Why not become an affiliate of the product and create the videos for yourself to promote YOUR offer? And if the company happens to see it and like it.. well they will contact you ( it wouldn't be the first time something like that has happened )
