I use thesaurus.com online, and Roget's International Thesaurus in print.

I think I read somewhere that thesaurus.com is based on Roget's, but it doesn't seem to serve up as many idioms as the book version.

Love the convenience of searching online, but I also need the idioms!

Anyone know of any better thesauruses (thesauri?) online? ...Or maybe a metaphor thesaurus if there's such a thing?

In print, I highly recommend Roget's International, complete and unabridged. It's really thorough, idioms and all.

It, the RhymeZone Rhyming Dictionary, the Scrabble Word Finder, and Thesaurus.com are all in my go-to arsenal, mostly for developing short and snappy phrases or taglines.

Meh. Different strokes for different folks.

I rather enjoy the hunt for the just-right word.

Me, too. I've seen split-test results where changing one word boosted response by 300% and more.
