I love it when I read stories like this when people are financially forced to get creative...

Get creative? She begged for others to pay for her lifestyle, that's hardly creative. Panhandlers get more creative with cardboard signs than this chick going online and whining.

You know who's creative? Mohamed, the guy who charged more money for providing a service during a peak time when that service would be more in demand.

Some cause-oriented hackers recently hacked one of my websites. So I researched what they're about and then donated a large sum of money to the entity they hate the most.

The next time they hack one of my websites I'm going to donate DOUBLE.

Holy crap, 450 a month?! My property taxes are double that a month...Good thing I don't have a mortgage!

She's cryin' about not making her rent...at 450 a month? Jeez, I'd better bail her out!

Hey Rick, I wonder if I could ask all the copywriters to donate a buck to me so I can hire a copywriter to complete my own projects....strike that, I might as well ask $1,000.00 donation from each of you guys. That way I can hire Dan Kennedy!!! Lol!!

Yes, I agree that she was creative. What kills me is, people are donating!
I guess those pretty blues are doing the trick....the only thing I have is a well trimmed beard. Any takers??

Thanks for the funny story, Rick.

Ok, first let me say, I totally get the begging part. The begging part turns me off, too.

But the creative part is that's NOT how she framed her request:

"I feel taken advantage of and cheated by the Uber name. $367 for a 20 minute ride should never be justified, even on Halloween. Please donate even just $1 if you think this is utter and complete bullshit and also hilarious and very, very depressing at the same time."
Her request doesn't come across as begging, it comes across as her asking you to help "throw rocks at the enemy."

She turned her personal plight into a cause.

From a copywriting perspective, I think that's pretty clever. Especially when you're dealing with the stress of coming up with the rent.

There are a couple other creative points as well, but that's the biggest thing that struck me.

    PS: By the way...

Guaranteed, folks at Uber have noticed. The article is on 1st page of Google when you type in "Uber".

Uber also enjoys a BBB rating of "F", specifically for their surge pricing strategy.

Gabby was able to turn people's anger about the price surge strategy into a viral publicity statement and cover her rent in the process.

Excellent observation. I didn't look that deeply into it. Just glanced at surface. There is a calculated method of madness behind those blue eyes.

Good lord! -- that site must be a conman 's dream.

Something about that pitch sounds a bit like a con in fact.

-- pretty young thang, flashing those baby blues
-- gets jerked on her birthday, even cries for a couple of hours about it ("awww...")
-- waitress and "freelance writer" -- just a hardworking girl trying make it in the big city!
-- ...and the icing on the cake: "thanks for the ride, muhammed" haha ... reminds me of all the prepper and gold scam ads that all seem to start with the word "Obama" (No, she wouldn't have ended it with "thanks for the ride, ann" if her driver's name was ann...)

Not judging the girl (though I wouldn't have contributed to her ... the casual racism would've turned me off...) Just saying, she uses emotion as deftly as a trained copywriter. A little too well in fact...

    hmm...

Edit: I just visited the link and see that her ad was embroiled in controversy, so she took it down and even responded to the uproar.... So I guess it wasn't a con. Just an unintended study in copywriting, I guess...

$362 for a cab ride? Man, she must have been really drunk! Full marks to Mohamed for his pricing strategy. No wonder he's rich and she's broke.

Two money makers in this article:
1- Uber (if you like working the typical job)
2-GoFundMe - They even have a business section!!
