How Would You Promote a Kindle Book?

Just yesterday, I released my second book -- this time for Kindle:

Amazon.com: Blog Prompts: 101 Creative Topics...Amazon.com: Blog Prompts: 101 Creative Topics...
I've got a print version in the works, but for the time being, I'd really like to spread the word on Kindle. Most of the advice out there is stuff like "promote your book to directories" which sounds to me like the SEO of yesteryear.

So if you read books often on the Kindle, how did you find out about them? I don't think many people visit these "ebook directories" but I could be wrong!

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Thank you! Usually the Kindle promotion advice I see is geared toward fiction books, so it's nice to have some that's geared toward everything

Nice book, I bought it through Kindle unlimited - hope "they" gave a few pennies. Nevertheless, even if I agree on most of your statements/concepts, I disagree on a few but I'm not a marketing guru, just the other IT guy

Once again, good job and I'll write an amazon review

Write like crazy, but make sure you don't rush your book.

Promote like crazy. This can get costly, but it's one of the disadvantages of self publishing. You have to advertise your book to be seen. There are millions out there.

There are lots of places to advertise. Some of them are just one day ads or you can take your book on a tour and get longer promotion. You have to decide what you can afford and what you'd like to do.

Personally, I'm working on a limited budget so I prefer to do book tours.

A book tour is a great way to get promotion (online) because your book will be posted on blogs that are geared toward readers. So not only does your book get exposed to the readers and followers of the publicist, but you get it exposed daily to the readers and followers of the blogs you're posted on. And a lot of them share it on their social media, so your reach really is limitless.

If your book is nonfiction you will have to look for a place that does nonfiction. Personally I have used Tasty Book Tours and Fire and Ice Book Tours for my promotion. The prices are good and the work is excellent. I've used a few other places that I haven't been as pleased with, so be careful about who you choose.
