Interested in finding

Well... daring has nothing to do with it.

There's the matter of client confidentiality. What any of my clients pays for their project is a confidential matter. Would you want your copywriter revealing in a public forum how much you paid for your copywriting project?

I'd guess not.

What would be the advantage to you of knowing the cost paid for a sales letter? Are you considering hiring a copywriter and want a point of reference? No two copywriters charge the same amount of money for their work. So, just curious about the reason you'd like to know...

I'm not saying this is the case here but I know many people
sneer at copywriter's fees. Who would pay $5K to write a
sales letter?

I won't bother to flog that dead horse, but a "simple sales letter"
is the toughest thing to write. It's easy to be technical, witty,
impressive. But to write a sales letter that is so simple that the
words don't get in the way of the message is the hardest kind
of writing there is.

The real genius of Gary Halbert, is that his letters are so engaging,
yet simple, that you forget you're being sold! Complicated is easy.
Simple is difficult.

When I write a sales letter for a client and they feel that anybody
could have written that letter, then that's the highest compliment
I could receive.

"Think not what your country can do for you,
but what you can do for your country."

The longest word in that quote is "country", but
the effect of that sentence still echoes today.

Writing simple sales letters is so hard.
Writing impressive letters is so easy.

I guess that's why 'writing a simple sales letter'
is so expensive.

First let me say I don't write $5,000 sales letters. I haven't for a very long time. But if you want to find sales letters written by the bigger guys, and how much they were paid, find the letters and work backward.

Locate a successful letter. Hunt around the niche for a bit and trust me you'll find out who wrote it. You're likely to come across a $5,000 letter. But...

Just because the copywriter was paid $5K to write it doesn't mean you can still get him for that price. Prices change.

So... instead of hunting down the fabled "$5,000 letter" why don't you hunt down great copy in your niche instead. Find out who wrote it and see if you can afford them?
