Anyone have any creative ideas on how to find people who need copywriting services? I am just branching out doing freelancr and specialize in business names, slogans, taglines and really any other kind of adverting copy.

How do those of you who write find customer? Ads, Craigslist etc?

Also, make the most of social media...now...while you have the time. One thing many people forget is that marketing starts before the product...get your audience first, write about copywriting, make informative posts, create a buzz. You can find influencers in your field on social media (such as Twitter) and then see who their followers are.

      Good luck.

Are you good enough to get paid for coming up with them?

The ability to generate leads (marketing) and the ability to write persuasively (copywriting) have some overlap but mostly are two different skills.

First of all, you can search on this forum. You will find a lot people are looking for copy writer. You can also create gigs on Fiverr. It is a great place for selling any kind of service. You can also search on freelancing sites. You will find a lot of jobs available on those sites.

I'd say, first thing you need to do is set up a profile on various freelancing websites. Fiverr, Elance, odesk.. and ohers. Most clients are asking themselves the same thing, and will probably look for a copywriter in those places.

  • Rather than wait for clients to find you on the interweb.

It might be easier to find them.

Send persuasive, compelling and if you can irresistible letters, postcards, emails or whatever to the local businesses you would most like to work for.

Proving that you really do have the solutions they need (more customers, more sales, more revenue, greater profits…).

    Of course...

This doesn't mean they have to call you - but its difficult not to.

Got this tip from filthyrichwriter.com: Sign up for those emails from Groupon and Amazon Local. They're all businesses within your area looking to drum up more business for themselves. I think it's a great place to start.

You've got some indispensable advice here and no excuse not to get busy.

I'd reiterate Angie's suggestion of combing through all of those threads; trust me, she knows what she's talking about.

On that point, assuming your skills are up to snuff, I'd suggest that you set up a tightly targeted direct mail piece (this can be as small as a customized postcard or a handmade letter).

Trust me, go physical, target, and don't underestimate the power of direct mail.
