A/B split testing sales copies and duplicate content.

Hi guys (and gals).

Lets say I have a sales page and I want to test various things on it. So I make copy of the page and change some variable in it. i.e. call to action button, headline etc.

So theoretically now I have 2 sales pages with 99% same content => not very good for the search engine. Its recognized as duplicate content.

How do you avoid this issue when you have to to A/B testing.

I guess robots.txt with no index and no follow the B page... ? I'm not 100% of it. Can anyone confirm please? Thanks

I have never once heard of someone getting a dupe content penalty from split-testing.

Besides, that's SEO talk. A sales page should have no concern of search engines.

Yea, but sales page is also being registered by the search engine.

So if you have 2 sales pages - same content only headline is different = duplicate content.

No one will tell you nothing for sure, but Google's algorithm will push site further down the SERP.
