WF copywriting forum dead?

Looks like this place has been collecting dust.

Did all the regulars here just switch to offline clients and forget about WF?

I just see seth now - he seems pretty loyal...

A fire doesn't burn without fuel...

...some times people have gotta work but I'm sure if there is something to inspire the copy demons will wriggle out like silverfish and comment.

A bit like most things you need both fuel and oxygen to get a good fire going.

Been this way for a while. Started before the freelancer takeover and only got slower from there. It doesn't help that 90% of the new threads here are "critique my copy" requests from people who have the copywriting skill of a tumbleweed and who either refuse to make suggested changes or get offended and insulting when their copy is taken apart.

I see the longtime members more on a certain copywriting facebook page now.

I try to check in but honestly it's the same troll threads being bumped up, an old post from years ago being resurrected with "thanks, good post!", or the endless critiques.

I'll chime in on a critique if it seems like the author has tried. Or if the topic seems interesting.

The good, info laden posts get buried under drama and dickishness.

So I have found other groups to participate in.

Honestly, I think you can learn more about copywriting from the OT forum. You really have to be willing to take abuse to hang around here, and it's just not worth it.

The problem with the copywriting forum here is it's a bit of a Mt. Olympus.

Self-appointed deities go around back scratching each other, and rehashing the same dribble over and over again.

And if you dare to challenge them (or point out their stupidity), they don't take it all too well.

If you want original thinking as relates to copy or IM in general, you're better off elsewhere.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10113911].message }}
    • Um... do you mean "drivel?" You must not... otherwise it would be odd for you to be pointing out stupidity.

It would be odd...if it weren't for my phone's auto-spelling.

But thanks for pointing it out, Vin. You're obviously not the type I was referring too. :-)

  • Sleeping.

I got to lie down next to him and make with the whole thought balloon Venn Diagram deal.

Our mutual dreamspace featured a new brand of 2-rider his & hers saddles for unicorns.

I was figuring a strapline but got lost off on the saddle straps.

    Does that answer your question?

      Adequately, thank you.

I've never heard of a dreamspace venn diagram, that's awesome.

I took a look at the private Facebook group and decided not to join. It did not look hospitable.

I've made some really great friends here. When I launched my little "how to get clients" report last year, I was amazed at the outpouring of support from practically everyone. When I think about all the friends I've made here, I'm pretty grateful.

It's why I stick around. The people.

To answer the OP question. No, it isn`'t dead...yet.

This is one of the longest running forums online. When Allen started WF there were scores of forums, some by unknowns, others by well promoted names. Only a handful are still active.

First, it requires a commitment to run a forum of time and resources. And public forums need moderation. Formerly, volunteers were used and that worked pretty well for a decade. Today, paid employees TRY to moderate all the WF sub-forums.

That, along with a huge influx of new people who think IM is their answer because some copywriter somewhere made it sound like Nirvana (the place not the band), the place to strike it rich.

So, good job copywriter for bringing thousands of new people to the WF.

Participation in public forums is voluntary. And there is a constant parade of participants who come and go. Some get busy with other things, some lose interest, some get tired of "casting pearls before the swine"...and some are tired from answering the same question over and over.

A forum is dead when there hasn't been a post for months or years.

It degrades quickly when trolls keep getting fed.

As an aside, I walked through a woods as a kid to get to school and had to cross a small bridge, I'd stop and pee off the side, pretending I was peeing on the Troll. I never saw a troll, so it must have worked.

We've had a forum for 15 years, it goes through cycles but as long as two people are sharing ideas, we're ok with that...and it is heavily moderated too.

I spend less and less time here, but, always ready to engage if I feel I can advance the conversation or provide real life educational perspective to a post.

So, NO not dead, but some of us just have better things to do with our time.

It's never dead... as long as you know how to use the search function.

I do not think so. However, we do have a sinking alexa score. Wonder why that is.

Please remember that people are busy this time of year. Oh yes, they are gearing up.
