Has anyone tested this...

HI Guys,

We all know there a VSL’s and long form sale letters.

Depending on your opinions and approach, we would normally use a VSL or a long from sales letter to sell a product or service

I have seen a combination of both, where there is a VSL at the top of the page, and the sales letter directly underneath.

But I’ve seen a third option, where you basically do an informal (unscripted) video ‘walkthrough’ of the long form sales letter, where you casually talk about the products major points in the written sale letter.

I suppose it’s a little like one of those video sale letter critiques I’ve seen many copywriters do (Michel Fortin comes to mind)

Has anyone used or tested that as an option to a straight VSL or long form sale letter page?

I'm wondering if the 'casual nature' of the commentary makes it less intimidating and more 'real' to prospects'.

    Glen,

I personally haven't tested the "copy walkthrough" like you said, but to me it would seem a bit cumbersome... having a video walkthrough of copy.

I just think it adds an unnecessary step, but again, I haven't tested it so I can't give you a definitive.

I do know that with all the stuff I've tested... the VSL and hybrid written works well... but what works a little better is the VSL and when someone exits, they're taken to a long form sales letter.

So, this way you're getting people with both modalities.

But I also know with doing some trading sales letters in the financial niche that have been doing very well, the best sales letter just hits them right away with a ton of proof, in regards to gains or returns.

Let the visuals of gains in the market do a lot of your selling for you.

But again, whether it's VSL or written, or a combo, I'd get one version out there, circulating with a good pitch.

Then, once the cash flow comes in, you could always test out the one you asked about... it's just not one I've seen used much, if at all, unless doing critiques.

By the way, one exception that worked VERY well for a client who sells software, I wrote a short written sales letter, but a little ways down, I had him do a Camtasia video that walked prospects through the software, what it did, what they were getting, etc...

Basically, it was a 2 minute Camtasia video that basically demonstrated the software in action, so people could see the benefits, instead of me just writing them down.

I suggested he do that, and add it to my written copy, and it tripled his conversion rate... and it wasn't even a well polished video of him walking people through his program.

But, the sheer demo of it helped boost his conversion rate, because we tested the page with and without that video, and the result was 3 times more sales with the video.

So, if you happen to test your version of what you're asking... let me know... would love to see how it works.

Thanks for you incite and commentary on this Shawn.

I can see your point about it being cumbersome to do a sale letter walk through,

Personally I don't have anything 'in the works' right now to test that 'walk though' style, but as some stage I will, if only to satisfy my own curiosity.

And I totally agree with about incorporating a 'demo' video as part of any sales letter for a software product.

The most important thing is deciding where in the sales letter you position that demo. video.

I've seen plenty of examples where the software demo was part of the VSL itself (at the very start), but I've found positioning it the sale letter after you've explained all the features/benefits worked the best for me.
