Why would you need a copywriter?

Hey,

I found this online and thought, hmmm... Why would you need a copywriter when you could get this piece of software and let it do the work for you?

3X Sellerator

I'm familiar with this product and interestingly the "formula" he
proposes for VSLs is one that I have been teaching my students
for over 10 years now. What I find interesting about these products
is that they don't use the tools they are selling to sell the tool.
I don't think that website was done with his product.

Some people think that writing is a gift that everyone has and they think that they would be able to do the same thing as professional writers.

My experience shows that it's not true at all. I've been running a blog and I had a few writers. One of them was pretty well known, had lots of followers on Facebook and Twitter. Another one could be called as a primer. And you know what? My blog was of course more readable when an appreciated person was filling it.

Well, there were sure a lot of great testimonials on that site, claiming how good the software worked.

I would need a copywriter because I hated writing or composition in school and college, despite I got A's!

Copywriting is a whole other discipline, so for me and maybe some other people, we would prefer to find and hire someone that can do copywriting for us. We can tell when something is written well. It grabs you and makes you say, "Yeahhhhhhh! That's what I'm talking about." Nuff said.

As a business owner it's important that you understand the essentials of making an attractive offer and getting people to buy what you have. Copywriting teaches you how to investigate the needs of your audience and craft an offer that they'd be mad not to accept.

Although I'm all up for automation, I think it's important that everyone who's in business understand the basics of copywriting...so that even when they do hire a copywriter/VSL software, they'll be able to identify if it'll have a high chance of converting than not.

Probably not a great mindset to have if you're selling copy.

  • I see 4 basic issues with copy templates.

    1. They're too generic.

Templates are designed to be "one size fits all" so the tone is usually not well-fitted to any one specific niche. I recall a client once handed me a template to do a VSL for a melatonin supplement. The problem was, this template had tons of language specifically intended to be used in an info product, and I had to re-write over 50% of it.

    2. Templates don't have "hooks."

Really great copy usually has some kind of attention-getting angle that grabs people by the neck. Think of Porter Stansberry's copy--it usually has some "big idea," like the "free silver coins" or "financial armageddon" thing.

You're not going to come up with a "big idea" that's relevant to your niche using a template. You need to come up with this yourself.

    3. Working with templates can be just as time consuming as writing a letter anyway.

Remember, when you write with a template you need to provide all the "meat" yourself. YOU need to provide all the specifics, and you need to word in such a way that fits the structure of the template. Often this takes just as long as writing copy from scratch.

    4. If the templates get popular then you're going to run into problems with the copy being too commonplace.

Ad blindness occurs when your ad looks too much like everyone else's... And if you use a template that's being widely used, then you will definitely run into this problem sooner or later.

Well, I'm certainly not going to defend another company's product without having used it, but you have to remember what a template is (if that's even what they're providing).

I don't know why, but at some point, people start treating templates as if they're finished products. It's like thinking a bag of Ramen noodles is the meal despite all the fun stuff you can add to it.

Templates are guides. No one should expect a finished product from something delivered as a guide.

True you could just buy the Sellerator... and anyone who doesn't think that Jon Benson and his peeps use that template to sell... lol...

I would be careful about statements like that... your inexperience is showing

However, you still need to do all the work. Doing a proper VSL (I know because I do them) can take you between 1 week (lightning speed) or a few months...

So hiring a copywriter would speed that process up immensely... You'd most likely get way better copy even if they are using the Sellerator, and then you can actually dedicate time to running your business...

Also consider this... If you can pay someone 30k and you make 100k-250k or even millions depending on your business...

How often would you do that?

You are working with a series of building blocks, you are putting the building blocks together, and then you are putting them in certain structures, you are building a little city of desire for your person to come and live in."
