Everyone likes videos, right?

To hear some Internet marketers talk, people today prefer to get information in videos - they don't have the patience to read text.

Maybe the answer depends on who you are marketing to. In this survey, almost no executives look at videos; they look for text:

Content - How B2B Content Marketers Are Missing the Mark : MarketingProfs Article

85% of the business leaders surveyed say they prefer text content to audio/video when making business decisions.

5% said videos are helpful to them in making business decisions.

    Thanks Marcia,

Perhaps business executives can judge the quality of the offering better in text form than in video.

Just like those glaringly obvious non-native speaking writers who often try to fake that they come from an English educated country.

There is a style that definitely appeals to an executive type and if you insist on using video then do they react better to a video with or without controls?...executives like control

A written piece can easily be scanned to extract the relevant points and only then might someone who does have more important things to do than watch content...particularly where there is no control....might take the time to consume your message.

The better copywriters whether they be in print or writing for VSLs understand how to lead a reader through their content.

    What do you think?

Comes down to knowing your audience for sure. I guess most Internet
Marketers don't target executives in their marketing. Although I think
that saying that you get information from videos sounds a little 'tacky'
    at that level of business.

Business leaders are busy people – they don't have
the time to sit and watch a 15 minute video.

Much faster to scan a piece of screen copy (if it's
    well written and formatted correctly).

Thanks for this useful info, Marcia.

I prefer text to videos. I don't know if it is because I only have one good eye but I generally don't watch any videos online at all. So those who try to sell to me via video are wasting their time.

Text, any day. (Except if Odell Beckham Jr makes another spectacular catch.) Videos can take a bit to download and I don't like being held hostage to watch something for a set time. Oh, and then there's the commercials you have to sit through...great for marketers, not so great for consumers like myself.

B-to-B is a whole different animal than consumer DM (thank goodness).

Business folks are busy... Text facilitates quick scanning for the info you need to make a decision... You can't scan a video...

For b-to-b, video is probably best saved for product demonstrations or tours and such...

When you post a video regarding your products or services that you offer, it creates a better impression on people who view it. This strategy increases your credibility as well.

I agree with the sharing of marciayudkin . Video promotion is a great tool to viral spread and influence people in order for us to make money. I am trying to make video promotion one for my product. Hope I could earn $1000+ afterward.

it is a good question. I had user testability done on my site by younger tech generation and she said 60 seconds max to show a good video that explains it. you have to trim it down and keep it interesting.

however, I've personally found that most of the videos I see now are at least as boring as copy and I don't generally listen through them unless I'm very interested.

People don't like videos when they're an unexpected forced auto-load when you open a page. Especially when you're on metered bandwidth or on your phone's data plan. I'll boycott a site forever for trying to force an auto-playing video on me.

Granted, I'm not a business leader.

There are pros and cons of both video and text form of providing information to your target market.

You cannot just force people to read or see your video, People are not interested until and
unless the first 5 seconds of your content (headline/sub-headlines) or the first 5 seconds
of the starting of your video catches their attention and intrigues them to view/read more.

Different people have different grasping and patience level. Some are more Visual,
some are Auditory while others are Kinaesthetic.

Also it depends on the technical aspects like how much time your page or the video
is taking to load (open or buffer) , how much traffic it can handle, so on and so forth.
Because the slower is the buffer/loading time, the more is the bounce rate of your page.

So there is no way you can say which one is the best way to communicate.

For me I guess best way is capturing their interest first (within 5 seconds) )
and then when their brain are opens enough to grasp things, bow your seed
    of information

Everyone likes videos, right? Actually NO - not right.

I prefer written. Whenever I click on one of these ads that takes me to a video landing page, I click to close the page. Most then have the "leave page or stay on page" popup. I click on the "stay on page" and then the written transcript pops up and I can read it. If the transcript dose not pop up, I just leave the page.

I am not going to waste my time for the video to get to the point.

Research has shown that about 40% of people are visual, 40% are audio, and 20% go by their feelings. Video is suppose to combine visual, audio, and feelings, but I find video to be too slow. I want to get to the real meat quickly. And I can do that by skimming the written copy.

people learn in different ways, however i can say from a sales perspective online VSL have been proven time and time again to convert better than text sales letters

surveys are kind of hit and miss anyways, the thought process you use when completing a survey isn't the same as actually doing it

in other words, if you were to ask the same group of people to select to watch the video or read the text, you'll probably get very different results from what you see in the survey

this brings across an interesting point. I will watch a video if i sign up for a webinar. Being that we are all in the IM niche in some way, we already know that we are going to be sold something on the webinar. If it is a good product, I'm willing to sit down for an hour or two to see what the product is.

If it is not a webinar, but just a sales page, i tend to skip the video because it is just to pitch me to buy something without any content or value. I'd rather scan through the sales copy to read about the product instead of watching whiteboard slides for 30min to see if the product is worth purchasing or not. I don't get emotionally caught up if I read also.

I thniki it depends on audience and what you're trying to accomplish.

Most people don't know what they want. The execs, probably want text so they can skim and read faster.

you usually read faster than someone speaks. well some people do, I certainly do...

    ...whatever.

that, doesn't necessarily mean they will absorb the message better Or have it sink in, just because they said they want it.

it all goes to the market, and testing. Gotta love the interwebs and their marketers

I prefer reading a text than watching a video because it allows me to read or understand the information at my own pace.
