Research! Research! Research!

Hello fellow copywriters,

Hope your weekends have been well.

The question I have is how do YOU usually go about doing the heavy duty detective work that allows you to get in the head of your customer?

Do you use internet forums?
Go out and actually talk to people?

I'm asking this because I have a huge opportunity(if I write copy that doesn't suck dick) ahead of me.

Here is a short thing the guy told me about his customers---

"target market is 30-55 year old males, who have an online business already and want to take it higher. Also, some are just starting up, and a small but ideal percentage are already very successful (6-7 figures) and want a team to do all the day to day work for them."

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Brandon

    Hi,
I usually do the research on the Internet, and it is enough, because I look for as many sources as I can to make the content unique. The company I'm working with also hires another copywriter and recently he messed up. They sent the article he wrote as a guest post on a very important blog, and the owner told them that it was plagiarised (he found another article online, which had similar content to the one they had sent him).
I think that a good copywriter should never allow for that to happen. Never.

First thing, a huge difference between a 100 thousand a year and a million dollar a year business.

30-55 male, narrows it down to a dozen million people.
100k is probably too small, start to look at 250k as the bottom.

You are looking for GROWTH, a one man band, maybe now with VA (virtual assistant) or part-time help. He NEEDS some help for the daily mundane to expand.

What does he CURRENTLY search for to locate this help?

There is where you will probably find your market research, and see the competition you are facing too.

I use both methods. Methods applied is depends on your business nature. If you are selling service, face-to-face appointment with customer will be preferable by customer, this is my opinion.
