Post asking about WF PM spam was removed, which answers the question.

    Yeah...

    Slightly disappointing sometimes.

Change in life is inevitable. Why should the WF be any different?

Taking a good product and making it suck is not inevitable.

        Vin,

I saw your original post and suspect it was removed because you actually reprinted the whole spam in your post. In effect, you were rewarding someone with high visibility for having spammed you, don't you think?

  • I wish that were the case, Marcia. If it were... I would suspect then that I would have gotten a reprimand. "Hey, thanks for pointing out the spammer, but next time don't repost..." sort of thing. It's more likely this wasn't actual spam at all as far as WF is concerned. It was a paid ad. At least that's the feeling I"m getting.

I would love for an actual power that be tell us one way or another.

I wouldn't hold your breath if I was you. From what I've heard, they replaced all of the moderators with an overseas help desk that does the moderation for all of WF.

I'm aghast... an overseas help desk?!

We can only dream of the horrors that await us in the future.

Get a grip guys and gals. You survived the change from paper and ink to electrons... you'll survive the WF changes too.

My reaction was about the same...

          except without the sarcasm.

You missed the point. There wouldn't be any PM/email warnings from a moderator if everything is being done by a help desk instead.

It might be an efficient way to handle it but it also comes across as more impersonal.

But don't worry about me. I've survived far worse things than the WF.

We will survive, and WF will probably survive.

But will we who have been her 5 years ago still be with WF 5 years from now?

A year ago I didn't think it would happen, but now I'm thinking it's inevitable. WF is a neighborhood that's going downhill fast. The good people are leaving in droves, and a bad element is moving in fast.

AFAIK, there's no way people can pay $$ for the right to spam our PM boxes, so if WF is secretly selling the rights to do that to a few individuals, then that would be super shadesville. Still, I don't know that that's the case... I've gotten PM spam before, sometimes it just happens.

I was doing some research this afternoon - was shocked to find there are about almost a hundred "WF members" who have forum names that are "SEOxxxxxxxxx" (i.e., the letters SEO followed by 9 numbers). Every one of those is likely a bot - and the "activity" they were involved in was "logging in" and 'PRIVATE MESSAGING". They all had the same IP range - and it's a "hidden" IP with a reputation of being used for spam and scams.

It's got to be hard for mods to keep up with it. I reported a similar PM the other day and that one bot/person was removed....but they just keep coming.
