Hello,

Im trying to get a realistic impression of what a (new) freelance copywriter makes. I know it's highly variable, but I'd still like to get some idea.

Thanks!

A freelance copywriter gets what he can.

No one pays a salary. A new or junior copywriter, starting in an agency, could make between 30k and 45k, depending on location.

IF you accept a job as a copywriter with a marketing company, and they give you commission work to do, you may get less salary and higher % or, you may have an option to take a higher salary and less %.

The new FREELANCE copywriter, mostly depends on WHO he knows, and his results at entry level copy.

    Does this help?

Between $0 and $1000000 per annum...or maybe more. Your question is a bit silly because everyone works and earns differently and even if you know what other people earned, that knowledge won't help you because you are not the people who tell you what they earn.

The question is NOT silly. Here's why:

AWAI promotes copywriting as a way to earn $100,000.00 a year through the ads they've run for several years.

Other copy trainers also toss out the 100k figure.

So, a new guy simply wants to know what is reality? He acknowledged in his post he knew it varied.

You don't get to decide what will or will not help him, do you?

Knowing annual salaries and pay rates is a standard of all industries, most often used to help people decide whether or not they want to pursue a career.

ALL freelancers are not created equal, some are receiving pay based on work done years ago, which could be factored into their annual compensation.

To the Original Poster...I didn't find your post silly. To Laurencewins, yours I did.

Something to keep in mind...I had to go get my tablet repaired yesterday and it was $70 in labor. Parts extra.

Now do you think, once you have the tools and skills necessary to pop a screen and possibly the LCD unit that might be attached to it out, and replace with a new one, that it takes more than twenty minutes to accomplish?

And do you think it's brain surgery-level knowledge?

So...are you worth less than the tablet repair tech?

This question is a good starting point. Tells you exactly what skill level you have or don't have, and where you ought to start thinking about your value to the marketplace.
