Introduction and question

Hello, my name is Eric. I am new to the warrior forum.

I wanted to take a moment to say hello to everyone in the Copywriting forum because I have been following the threads in this forum since I joined.

I have a question regarding a major headline that I am working on for a sales letter that I am writing. I am not a copywriter; however, I enjoy copywriting and would like to write for others in the future.

Currently, I am in the learning stage.

My question is, could someone PLEASE give me a suggestion for other words to use instead of the word Achieve shown in quotes for the headline below.

How To "Achieve" Top 10 Search Engine Rankings

My thought is that the word "Achieve" is not the right word to use in the headline. I have also tried the headline with the words below in the place of the word Achieve:

Get
Grab
Obtain

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have a great day.

Thank you

Nobody (except SEO pros who want bragging-rights to
woo clients) really cares about what the ranking is...
they care about getting TRAFFIC composed of BUYERS!

    Think about that.

Your appeal in the headline is wrong. Delve deeper
into the psychology of what people really want... it's
not big SEO rankings, it's profitability and success
in getting traffic, it's market cache, competitive
advantage, more income, pride in having a successful
online enterprise, visibility to their most qualified
    prospects.

See? SEO is a means-to-an-end. You make the
mistake of basing your appeal around the interests
of a narrow group of technicians, not the broad
and common motives we all share.

I appreciate the comments and suggestions provided by everyone.

After reviewing the suggestions regarding my headline, I decided as suggested by several replies to my post, to rewrite the entire headline for better results.

Also, thanks "Onslaught" for the suggestion concerning one of my sub headings you reviewed. I did a rewrite for that subheading.

Again, I appreciate the time taken by everyone to respond to my post.

If there is something that I can assist you with, feel free to let me know. If possible, I will be glad to help.

      Have a great day.

      Thanks,
      Eric

--> How To Dominate Top 10 Search Engine Rankings

However, ONCE AGAIN, Loren is right (damn you and your beautiful hair!). You want the underlying reason why people are even on your site. They don't want to be at the top 10 listings of page one for no reason. I can be #1 for "dallas sexaholic", but it doesn't generate much profit unless I go prostituting myself at the corners.

It all comes down to "SO WHAT?" Top 10 or even #1 doesn't mean crap when there isn't a market for it and there aren't any interest or searches being performed for it.

I see so many SEO products out there giving their screen shots of ranking #1 for something that no one is searching for. Yes, even our so-called gurus. It's absurd, shallow and arrogant. But whatever, it makes the sales they want.

If you want to dig deeper, you want a headline that gives the actual benefit of ranking in the top 10. Good luck.

Kev... you'll always be MY #1 Dallas sexoholic.

And Loren does indeed have beautiful hair. I keep a lock of it under my pillow... I stroke it like a cat.

Seriously, though, I recommend you pick up a copy of Paul Myers' "Million Dollar Copy" which basically is ALL about how to get inside your prospect's head... and excellent resource.

I agree. The best way to figure out what's behind your customer's motivation is to ask them WHY they want to be in the top 10.

Then, when they give you their answer, ask WHY again. And WHY again. And why again.

Keep asking why and you'll get to their deeper reason. Maybe you find that beneath it all, they want to get a college fund going for their kids.

So the headline then becomes something like: Put More Money In Your Child's College Fund By Getting Your Website Listed In The Top 10 On Google.

That's something - that if they have that desire underneath everything - they'll REALLY perk up and pay attention because no one else is talking to their issues and their deepest desires in that way.

If you find out that the reason why they want their site listed in the top 10, underneath everything is that they want to get out of debt, you can say something like:

Pay Off Your Debt In Record Time By Getting Your Site Listed In Google's Top 10 Search Results

Ask your customers/prospects the multiple WHY's and then see where they overlap. That can become the new focus of your headline.

I'd do what Mona said - figure out what your target market really wants in their "heart of hearts," as Hardy said, and promise them you'll give it to them (assuming you can, of course).
