Help! Salesletters are assembled quote...

I thought I recalled a quote once about sales letters being assembled. That's all I remember of it. And I thought it was by Eugene Schwartz.

Does anyone know of a quote like that, who made it, and where I can find it?

Thanks in advance.

My recollection is that he made the statement during his talk to Phillips. Not 100% sure.

The one I've heard several times.....

"Copy is not written. If anyone tells you ‘you write copy’, sneer at them. Copy is not written. Copy is assembled. You do not write copy, you assemble it. You are working with a series of building blocks, you are putting the building blocks together, and then you are putting them in certain structures, you are building a little city of desire for your person to come and live in." - Eugene Schwartz

      Rich,

Thanks! I think this is the quote I was trying to recall. Do you have any idea where in Gene's material this quote was taken from?

      Thanks and Regards,

I did some research and apparently the quote is from the "Rodale speech", not Phillips.

  • Rich did post the full quote - and the last line is worth reading again.
