How Much Should I Pay For These Articles?

I'm looking to outsource/get help with my articles (I'm going to need about 30 per month). I need articles that are around 500-600 words in length and the occassional 1,000 words. Some topics may require research and in other cases I'll be providing my notes, url's, and my own research. I've been lurking the forums and have seen suggestions anywhere from $5-$50 per article.

I have tried posting a project on eLance and gotten some cheap bids, however, their sample articles are CRAP. I'll assume that's a reflection of the price! Bids were between $65-$100 for 15 articles. I'm willing to go higher, but I want good quality.

What do you think is a fair price for what I need?

    Hi

I both write- and outsource writers.
    This is what I do
I find a few good writers, then pay them altering amounts depending on length and on the research required. I think this is fair and it means my writers stay happy too.

I pay anywhere from $8-18 for a 400 word article. The $18 is for one that requires a higher level of writing.
I'll go up to $50 for a 1000 words if it has to have references etc in it.
I think you take it on a case by case basis. Chose the writer, and reward them by paying them a wee bit more than others...and you'll be fine.

There are some excellent writers on odesk.com who seem to be happy to work for realistic rates.

I am UK based and freelance for a couple of agencies which pay £25 per 500 words. I confess that I stopped offering services at the freelance sites because of the low rates being offered by service providers. It seemed that clients preferred low price and quantity over quality.

Your new so you probably haven't checked out the WSO(Warrior Special Offers) section of this forum. Their are usually some good ghostwriting deals.

1 more thing, I've seen a lot of people post article writing questions to this part of the forum and this usually means they don't understand that copywriting and content writing are 2 very different animals.

If you end up looking for a copywriter for one of your projects on elance (I just started using it myself) be careful of the content writers trying to pass themselves off as copywriters. There are good copywriters there, but I see a lot of people who think all writing is the same getting burned by going for low bids from people who haven't a clue about copy.

    Hi Susan,

I do a lot of research for online copy writing jobs for my site. I did a quick review of what's being paid and the range is about $8-20 per hour. On a per piece basis depending on the number of niches - 10 to 20 per article.
Please PM me if you would like more information
