Okay to put product name in page?

Hi, I'm new to this and have been lurking for a week, getting a great education from all the wonderful FREE information you guys give out, and for that I thank all of you. When I first discovered IM (2 weeks ago) I felt overwhelmed but after reading what all of the members have written I'm confident that this is something I can do. Anyway I don't want to bore you further...

I'm currently in the process of writing and re-writing my first pre-sell page and have a question. Now I did try searching for the answer to my question but have come up short and, frankly, am getting a little antsy.

My question: If I am an affiliate should I put the name of the product on my pre-sell page?

I ask because it seems that the potential customer could just Google the product name and go directly to the site to buy, or perhaps they will be compelled to leave my page to do further research on the product.

Are my concerns unfounded? And if so, where should I introduce the product name (top, middle, bottom)?

Thank you.

There's always that risk and it will eventually happen. You can't do anything about that. Don't forget that even if you do everything right, the typical conversion rate is between 5% - 8%. So this means every 5-8 visitors out of 100 might purchase what you are promoting.

The bad news is, those numbers are only valid for the real sales page, not yours. So because you are not the actual product owner, your visitors have to go through two different sales pages. And that decreases the conversion rate dramatically. That's why it's very difficult to be an affiliate marketer. Because you are not allowed to direct link with google ppc anymore.

If you make your sales copy short with little content, then google will slap you so hard and you will get a very low quality score which will cause you to pay outrageous fees per click. Google calls those kind of pages bridge pages. If you make it long, it will be overwhelming for your visitors since they will have to go through a second long sales copy.

Anyhow, your visitors making a search on google for the specific product should be your last concern. You have more important things to worry about

If you are promoting clickbank products, there's a way to bypass the main sales page and send them directly to the order page. Ask for permission first though. Not everybody is cool with that.

People can always find the main product site from google
and purchase from there, use their own affiliate link to buy, etc.

Actually that's why many affiliate marketers offer special bonuses
as an incentive to get people to buy through their link.

But I think this is just one of the many drawbacks of affiliates marketing
and there's nothing much one can do about it.

After all, if a person wants to buy from his own affiliate link only, then
nothing can stop him from doing that.

You say you don't want to mention the product name on your site.

Well you can certainly try that, but you must be careful not to set off
the reader's BS detector because such pages usually sound like a
bunch of hype if not done carefully.

    Hope that helps,

    Dean.

There's no such thing as a typical conversion rate.

Traffic sources, the product, price, etc all come into play.

My question: If I am an affiliate should I put the name of the product on my pre-sell page?
People will Google.... People will steal commissions. It happens.

But for the average visitor, depending on the market, it's a lot easier to click on a link (your affiliate link) than it is to search for the product name.

So if I where doing, say a dating review site, I'd have the top 3 sites, and plenty of clickable links... Images, anytime the site is mentioned, etc. Just make it easy for them to click.

The only reliable source on presell pages that I could find was from Ken Evoy. He is
one of the most respected guys on the net. You can definitely go with this one.
He is the guy from Site Build it and his book is Make your content pre-sell.

    Hope it helps.

    Good luck.

Alot also depends on the company you are affiliate for. Some don't allow you to use their name in your advertising. Best bet is to check with the company. Their rules & regulations should be somewhere.

Also, usually when you join a company and become an affiliate, you usually have a sponser. Anything you buy, the commision goes to them. You usually cant buy using your own affiliate link.

    That is a valid concern.....

For the most part if your a seasoned veterean you would have your website atop for your keyword but I understand where you are coming from.....

I don't feel you need a sales page as the company generated site you have has its own sales copy your job is to just separate yourself from the others selling the product.....

Sell yourself mabye do a review of the product on video.....

People like to know there is a person behind the website....

If you separate yourself from the other affiliates through videos you will sell more of your companies product.....

"get them to give you their information" name and email through autoresponder

And do a series of videos and articles on the product.... I think you would be okay giving the product name if you can sell your self above the product.

People would trust you as a resource more so than someone trying to sell them something...
