Sales Letters on Different Browsers

One of the things I do with My Sales Letters
is provide design as well

(I'm not a Pro Designer but I can make decent
pages)

Do you guys look at your Sales Letter on
Different Browsers?

I do my copy in a Wysiwyg Editor and then
look at in it Firefox

I am working on a Sales letter now

It looks Awesome in Firefox

I wanted to show it to my wife So I had
her bring it up on her computer

It looks like Crap!

Colors are all different

Page is Too wide

Tables are not centered

It may be her monitor.

She has one of those Wide Flat screen monitors

My site looks different in IE and Firefox, must be how the browsers read the code differently.I have checked to put the settings on my browsers to default, but did not make any difference.

    Yeah, that can get tricky.

I include formatting the letter in html if they have a mini site... And I have a bunch of PLR mini site designs if they need one, but I take no responsibility for any weird browser issues because I'm not a pro either.

If they had the mini site designed by a freelancer, and I'm not the one that screwed it up, I'll generally tell them to have the designer fix it.

I've had a couple of times where I'd just pay someone from here or Digital Point $20 for some quick clean up stuff.

My advice is to test it in the major browsers, and if it's messed up, and it's your fault, outsource it.

I always check my site in IE because it is the most common browser. Unfortunately about 40% of all internet traffic still use IE6 which is notoriously buggy. If you want to be really good you should really check it in Chrome & Safari too. You'll probably find some work around to the discrepancies between the browsers are due to the way they handle tables. Some like to draw the cells whether they have content or not, but some don't.

The best tool for debugging that kind of thing is Firebug, an add-on to Firefox.

        That is an awesome site!

I usually test on IE7 and Firefox, but have been known to fire up Netscape. Be nice to be able to check other browsers and operating systems, so thanks!

Browsershots.org has already been mentioned but it deserves a second plug because it's INVALUABLE to me.

TIP: Pare down the platforms and browsers you test to just the most important (Linux: FF; Win: FF, IE, Chrome, Opera; Mac: Safari)

    Best,

Alexa, thanks for the link to browsershots. I'm in the 40% who still use IE6. But I
do have FF and use it for certain things. IE6 is buggy and seems to be getting
worse on my pc. Just lazy about upgrading.

Here's a useful site for checking in different monitor resolutions. I don't know if
it has already been mentioned, here. This is very helpful, and I use it when making
sites. Gives you a good idea of what some people have to deal with.

Like Mike said, I too think it's enough if you use fixed widths
and make sure all the elements are in the right place.

I create my webpages using MS Frontpage (yeah, I can't
let go of it!)... and I only find very minute differences when
viewed in IE and FF, and that too only sometimes.

Definitely no alarming changes and definitely nothing to be
    worried about.
