Has anyone ever worked with Lionbridge?

Hi Everyone,

I have had a company called Lionbridge get in contact with me and ask if I would be interested to join their copywriting bank of writers to do adhoc content work.

They have agreed to my rate and asked me to join their portal.

Before I sign up or go further, I wanted to ask if anyone has done any work for this group and if they are legit. I have googled of course and they seem quite above board, however just wanted to see.

It would be for Australian-based clients looking for content and copywriting work.

I'd love to hear if anyone has done work with them.

Thanks
Corinne

Haven't done work for them but when I read their 2015 company report I formed an opinion...

They appear to be a company with growing revenue so if employment is your desire....

You can read their 2015 Annual report here:

      Thanks Ozi,

It's weird because they got in contact with me and have requested I collaborate with them.

I have had a look through all of their portal information and it looks legit, however they do have a 60 day payment cycle which is a bit of a pain to be honest waiting that long to get paid for projects.

I might just give a small project a go and see what it's all about.

They are saying they need lots of Australian writers at the moment which I found interesting.

Although the company is a listed enterprise and I'm sure acts with the highest respect it reminds me of an operation here in Oz called Simjen.

They purported to employ 100's of employees and were on a huge growth path.

The company founder was the kid out of "Skippy" TV show - old.

Well when you looked into them the employees were actually "interns".

They had a ton of people producing websites, coding, content writing etc etc but 98% of them were foreign students.

They sold a variety of web services that mostly revolved around mini sites to boost rankings and SEO in in the old days.

Lion appears to produce localised content for larger clients who want to enter or re-enforce their presence in a market.

When I suggested that they could be a good employer because of their reach and financial capacity I was sort of getting at the aspect that they would be an "employer" rather than a "client" and as such the freedom offered by being self-employed may be diminished.

It appeared from what I read that there would be work available to modify content to suit local markets....to me that is re-writing someone else's content...hence boring.

I don't like boring so something like that is really low on the appeal scale to me.

        Just my personal opinion.

Maybe they are scouting for talent and in that case you may really impress and end up doing something really exciting.

Check them out but if it is humdrum you can always move on.

        Best regards,

        Ozi

That 60 day payment cycle turned me off right there. Those long payment cycles have never worked for me. Seems like there's always a hitch! I just don't see any reason for the the long wait in payment for the nature of this business. I mean, it's not like you're closing a real estate deal or something. It's just writing.

Yes, I am a little concerned about that too actually. They have sent me one project, which I have declined. I'm not convinced it is a good match to be honest.

60 day payment cycle? That's really unacceptable! You can do a lot better than that!
