What kind of routine suits you as a blogger or copywriter?

This question always tingles me that how should I transform my lifestyle to accommodate my passion for writing as well as my personal life. I know discipline and punctuality are the key instincts of an avid writer but sometimes it's very hard to commit to these things.

Back in the days when I started freelancing, I used to work like an animal neglecting my social life and my health. But gradually, I realized it won't go a long way if something didn't change quickly. And it did change. I found out that I was more productive and creative when I write early in the morning (around 6-7am).Therefore, I started waking up early. Other than that I found out that I love working with some classical music in the background ( Handel,Schubert,Vivaldi).Apart from that I added a warm cup of coffee in my morning ritual to get my mind on a creative track. All these additions made me more efficient with my time management.

One thing that I hate is the distraction from social media sites like Facebook and twitter. I have been trying really hard to keep away from them while writing but every time I sacrifice my precious creative moments to my Facebook's newsfeed. It takes a whole chunk of my writing hours. Anyways, that's what goes on in my every day routine.
Throw some of your routine management pearls in this thread .I would love to know how you guys go along with your passion for writing.

Cheers - James

A blogger routine is quite complicated.Well to be very honest writing is not an easy task. You have to search and gather the information before writing. And after this you have to write Google friendly content. Its not an easy enough . You have to be in good mood and you have to make a routine if you are working from your home.

Definitely. Mood plays an extremely vital role whenever I try to think about new ideas. Therefore, I always prefer a good night sleep and a cold shower before jumping into something that requires creativity.

Work backwards James, figure out how much you need to earn per day and then work out how many articles you need to write or hours of content writing you need to do each day. Once you know how many billable daily hours you need to work for, then you can break down your day based on this number. For me, I need to bill at least 5 to 6 hours of work per day. I work best between 6am and 9am so I do half of my daily hours then, break for two hours and go to the gym and do chores, and then I get back behind my desk at 11am and work until around 3pm. Usually during this time I take a short break for lunch and allow a bit of time for planning and taking client phone calls. You do need to be really structured and also be clear how much you need to earn to reach your goals. I often turn off my emails so that I don't see them come through while I am working and I aim to take a few minutes break every 45 minutes to give my brain a rest, usually I scroll through the news or facebook for a few short minutes to let my brain zonk out. Good luck!

Well Sir, I admire your discipline. I think structuring your work in accordance with the billable hours can easily make writing manageable. Apparently, my project frequency is pretty consistent and I can try your work ethic to see how it works out. Thanks for your advise.

It's good to know you have a passion to write. First find out what kind of stuff catches your interest right away. For example is it suspense ,fiction,non-fiction,biography etc. Whatever it is , stick with it until it inspires you. Thinking outside the box opens up your mind to creativity and the secret behind this involves extensive reading. Also learn to push yourself. Writing a good content involves motivation and discipline and you can overcome laziness through these traits. Personally, whenever I feel down I just search up different motivation videos on YouTube to inspire me.There is always something there which makes me move forward. Try that and let me know how it works out for you. Good Luck.

Well, I have a set number of words that I will write per day so I don't burn out. I try not to go over 5000 words.

I get up very early (around 5am) and do all my writing in the morning. That's when my thoughts are clearer.

I never work past 12 pm. I take the rest of the day to relax.

So you are an early bird too. My mind is also sound and clear at that part of the morning. I admire your strategy regarding 'no work policy' after 12pm. But then I assume that you must be real productive between 5am to 12pm and definitely know the art of avoiding unwanted distractions. To sum up, I would say that you have traits of a successful writer.

Thing is, routine takes no accounta changes in the world.

An' the world is bigger an' way moodier than any onea us, so it is easy to get stuck on routine.

So I figure you gotta thinka routine less as a lista slavish rules designed to please or make life easo an' more as a performance relevant to the audience breathin' right in frontaya cozza how you thought real hard about what they wanted to hear you say.

Prolly we should switch out routine for lubricant.

But mebbe not in termsa Hardcore Routine = Bum In Seat cos we would prolly slip off our chairs in an embarrassin' fashion.

I would not wish that fate on any artiste, regular or irregular.

Well Princess you just made some deep philosophical points up here. I like your liberal approach towards the non-evolving way of a human life. But I guess this is the way we all function to give time to everything. A fate of an artiste is dependent on his/her creative revelation and it can be bestowed upon thee at any moment. But anyways you made some thought provoking points for sure.

For now, my routine is to get up at 8 in the morning and work until 12 at night. It is very exaggerated, but I have some debts to pay and only in this way I can get it.

While I recognize that the greatest productivity occurs when a few hours work and a lot of concentration.

Well it must be real hard to commit with that kind of routine for a long period of time.Personally, I would be completely knocked out if I carry on like this . But I assume sometimes the burden of responsibilities outweigh your desire to go for simpler avenues.I wish you good luck with your work and I hope you get rid of these debts through your hard work.
