Essential Content for Sales Page?

Hi

I have an eBook and video series, which I'm promoting via a free download, and then an automated email campaign. At various points, e-mail subscribers will be sent to a sales page, where they are encouraged to buy one of the products on offer.

What I would like to know is: what are the essential contents for a sales page? And ideal length (i.e. number of words)?

Thanks

The number of words aren't important, but what those words say are.

Headline that stops them from moving on
    An offer they can't resist
Social proof / trust elements (testimonials/reviews) so they know they're not the only fool
    Reason to act now

If you can do all of that well in 5 words, 5 words is the ideal length. If you need 1479 words to do it well, 1479 words is the ideal length.

    Hi,

I say some things you could add to the above would be:

Great explanation of what exactly the product is about
Great or at least good images of the product
Possibly a short video about the product would be great
A list of 5 or so reasons they need your product
About 3 to 6 testimonials would be great
A money back guarantee of 30 days or more
Maybe 2 or 3 bonuses added in

This should keep you busy for a while and if you do
it right get you a lot of sales ...

Initially, you should direct the focus on the product. This is hero
on your page (ultimately it is your money).

A good Headline and features of the product, how or why it help to solve the person`s problem, or that it gives.
Then additional selling arguments for example (thanks @dnomyar)
A money back guarantee of 30 days or more
Maybe 2 or 3 bonuses added in

The number of words are not Important. What's Important is what you do with the words you use.

The basic sales page opens with the headline which should show your prospect the big benefit and promise they are going to get from using your product. Next the subhead is going to reinforce the benefit and add a little curiosity to get your prospect to keep reading.

As you craft the body copy of your sales page you want to remember that your prospect is always thinking WIIFM. What's In It For Me. Because when it all comes down to it that's all they want to know.

Now of coarse your going to have to persuade, compel and entice your prospects with the features and benefits and that's a good time to use your bullet points.

Oh ya, don't forget your P.S. Your P.S. Is like your second headline and you should sum up all your benefits and remind them of what their going to get. This works great for the people that just skim the page down to the P.S.

Speaking very broadly - generally the sales page should be quite a bit longer than the email opt-in page because you will have to do a lot more objection handling to get people's money.

Keep it short. Sell benefits. If I look at any sales page I ask myself, what are the benefits to me if I buy this product. Will it save me time, will it save me money, will it make me more attractive etc. You get the point!
