STOP! Insanely Wicked Headlines Suck Bored Readers into Catatonic Click Frenzy?

That headline there sounds like clickbait spam to me ...

.... BUT ...

I guess this works mostly for MMO (make money online) and a few other B2C (business to consumer) niches?

: ) For those that do this - What sort of results do you get?

Anyway, just for fun, let's try some out ...

How about these MMO headlines?

Ridiculously Low Conversion Rates? Follow This Stupid Simple Sales Blueprint - Hypnotize Cold Prospects into a Buying-Frenzied Trance!

Dreaming of 5-Figure Days? Here's What I Did to Turn Lazy Subscribers into Money-Splurging Lunatics!

: ) Want to share some?

Now, for some B2C niche headlines ...

Stop Poisoning Your Kids! Listen to These Sexy Hypnosis CDs - Kiss That Filthy Cigarette Habit Goodbye ...

Don't be a Pot-Bellied Dad - These Devilishly Delicious Recipes Will Make That Belly Fat Melt Like Butter!

Have some?

Most likely, this won't work with non-MMO B2B markets ...

... BUT ...

What do you think?

EDIT: I'm testing this now with our Warriors For Hire service ad and my sig here that points to the same ad. I'll see how our views and conversions look like after 20 days or so, and I'll report it here ...

Honestly I think the days of catchy headlines causing people to dump out their wallets are over.

    People want trust.

They want to feel like they know the person or company they're buying from. They want to know that the person or company stands behind their product(s) 100% and will do anything to make it right.

    Customer service is key!

You don't have to be the cheapest out there, have the most compelling sales copy, or screenshots of millions in your bank account. Just treat visitors/clients/customers like they're your only visitor/client/customer and keep giving them reasons to come back to your site for more.

That's my take on it anyway!

That's not your take - that's the take of mature copywriters.

Trust beats hypey sales pages. Any. Freakin'. Day.

I'm not really sure what you mean by my statement not being my take on the matter....what I wrote is my opinion on the subject and i'm sure countless others feel the same way....at least they should!

You're right, it depends on the market you're in.. and also the platform you're using.

Clickbait headlines work but there is a growing resentment towards them.

Point is, they work.. if you can handle the potential backlash from it.. which fizzles out quickly.. and follow wherever your statistics lead you, they're still effective way to grab attention.

Headlines are important. You want them to stop the reader in his tracks and "force" him to continue on into the copy. But headlines don't typically convert prospects to buyers by themselves.

How many time have you made a purchase based on the headline alone without getting into the sales copy? Never - in my case.

The examples you've given are good for a laugh, but are they going to be the difference between a sale or not?

People have seen these headlines too often at the grocery store checkout line - they will almost always recognize them for what they are.

Let me ask . . . do you want to establish yourself as a purveyor of this kind of stuff? If so, that's fine.

Thanks for pointing this out to those here who might not have any experience in this yet (probably a significant number of members here) ...

That makes two of us, Steve, but I know I'm not always my client's ideal customer (not even most of the time), though:

=>> I just want to make it clear that what I was kindly asking for in my OP, if members want to share them here, are:

      1. Their results in using these types of headlines so as to get clicks / views;

      2. Which markets / industries (not their niches, of course) where they use or have used these; and

      3. Which platforms ...

Yeah, I mentioned something that has to do with fun in my OP, because I want to make this possibly fun for those who might want to share their results, though I also had lots of fun skimming through the headlines in the WSO section ...

Originally Posted by Steve B View Post

Well, I kindly requested for other members to share their results if they want, so those who might have significant experience in using these types of headlines could probably tell us if there's indeed some sort of correlation between headlines and conversions, especially if the copy itself mostly sticks to this style -- Many WSO threads, mostly with 5 to 6-digit views, do this ...

Note: I understand that using these types of headlines in those WSO threads doesn't necessarily affect number of views significantly, since many can probably be attributed to thread age and number of bumps among others like direct traffic campaigns and what their affiliates are doing ...

Yeah, these types of headlines are similar to those in tabloids; BUT

Many of them are still in business; SO

There might be certain markets where these types of headlines work or even work well, which is why I requested for the things that I mentioned in my OP from those who might be kind enough to share their actual results?

No, not me. This is just part of my market research (of course not just the only market research that I'm doing now) -- I'm just asking these things because I want to show actual results in my presentation for a client in certain MMO niches and also for another client in non-MMO B2C niches -- They said they want my ad agency subcontractor and our content writing team that they'll lease from me to use these types of headlines for their ads and onsite / offsite content pages; and

I just thought the insights and results that I'll be able to gather here, if any, could most likely be helpful as additional data in my presentation ...

Not only should the headline get the prospects attention and promise a big benefit.

It should create curiosity and remember the prospect is always thinking ..."what's in it for me."

The curiosity will transition the prospect into the body copy.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with curiosity. If something has caught my eye enough to make me think for a second, chances are i'll give it a second look.

I think you have to tread carefully with big promises and guarantees unless there is concrete evidence to back your claims. We all know how hard it is to get that message across! Of course most of us on here are super sensitive to these sort of things....we have our BS forcefields on full power most of the time! The general public may be easier to sway!
