Hi, I'm a copywriter from Germany. Normally I do print ads, radio ads or tv ads, but now I'm getting more and more into web copywriting and my next project is kinda tricky because I've never done something like this.

I have to write the copy for an app. There are already texts from the developers (kinda wireframe texts) but I have to rewrite them/ make them better / write new ones.

But me and my agency are kinda overwhelmed because we haven't done it before. Therefore my question: do you have experience in this area? Is there a standard process for writing copy for apps? Do you use special tools? Where do you write the copy - in some excel sheets, word docs, final layouts? Is there a standard procedure?

To define a good work process is very hard because it's not just writing some headlines in a doc. Is there someone who have experience with this process and who want's to share it?

Thx, Seth

Copy is the same. Whether for apps or for light bulbs.

From my point of view, I feel in the tech/app/start-up world they do not really care about copy.

All they do is post jargons about how great their app or new technology is.

Hence, you see lots of start-ups in this niche folding up.

They do not tend to show the potential users how the app/service will be beneficial to them. (Isn't that what we all care about?).

So you've got experience in copy already. Apply the fundamental copy principles and make a good product.

I can assure you will make tons of sales.

If you need any more specific answers be sure to let me know.

    Cheers.

    Seth,

There was an app video on my Facebook newsfeed that vividly demonstrated
    what it does.

On the right side ad, it doesn't demonstrate so well,
but it reminded me so clearly what it does...

Take website content and turn it into a downloadable ebook file.

Here's the sidebar ad and the link to the website which has
a different video demonstrating how to use it.

It's a great example to draw inspiration from.

    Hi,

I have done a couple of projects for apps and it is the same as online content writing however the space is obviously a lot more limited and you're probably going to be more focused on the visual side of things as this will take up a great majority of the space in the screens.

Firstly, I would get a very clear wire frame and screen shot from the graphic designer for each and every screen for the app so you get a clear idea of exactly how many words or characters you have available to use and I would also ask if you need to write any eMarketing content from push notifications that are activated when users sign up.

While it isn't difficult you will just need to ensure your content is super sharp and punchy and you're not waffling as there isn't enough space.

It's all pretty straight forward really to be honest.

    First of all: thank you

    @gingerninjas

Where did you write the copy? Directly into the wireframes? Into the layouts? Or did you write the copy in an ordinary word doc or something similar? Because I can't imagine the work process at this point. Is it kinda:

    1. Looking at the wireframes. Okay, it's about that and that.
    2. Looking into the layouts. Okay, it looks like that.
    3. Open a word doc and write the fitting copy for every layout?

It's kind of complicated, isn't it?
