so i was reading my marketing and copywriting books yesterday and i decided to change the copy of my site and my ad on craigslist, and it worked and i actually got a lead.

now im wondering was this skill or luck? because at the time i had two ads on craigslist, one title said "free music video" the other said "get PAID for me to shoot your music video"

i was just on the phone with him and i asked him and he didn't remember, he said "i think it was free video" then i said was it "get paid for me to shoot your video"? and he enthusiastically said "yes, that was it"

so did i get lucky or am i starting to get better at copywriting?

also if you want to check out my site, its Water Video Productions - Home

This is not self promotion, this is just for you to see what i wrote

You got lucky. If you get lucky many times, your copy's improved. So, start counting the leads.

Skill plus Effort (consistent effort, ideally) = Luck. At least some of the time.

Skill clear .. simply because skill outweighs any luck

The second ad worked because of 3 things.

    1. The fact that they can get PAID i.e. get free / easy
money for doing something fun i.e. shoot their music video.

    2. The fact that they are going to get a FREE music video.

    3. The curiosity factor i.e. why am I going to get paid for
    shooting my music video.

Greed and curiosity are two of the biggest human motivators.

The first ad never worked because it's just a free video, and
free isn't enough anymore. In fact, free makes it look cheap.

If you give something away it cannot have any value.

The answer is YES. You got lucky because you're improving. Continue to test, measure, and improve your copy, and you'll find yourself getting even luckier.

To quote an old Roman philosopher...
Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Copywriting in a way is similar to dating.

There's no 100% efficient way to get the girl.
However, there are guys who already find a way to go home with the girl.

If you follow the guidelines of good copy, you increase your chance of making the sale. No strategy / book or piece of wisdom is going to assure the sales but at the same time, if you follow them correctly, it is impossible not to get the sales.

You just need to learn to look statistically at conversion.

Your copy connected with a person! Skill in experimenting with a good line plus the luck of it landing in front of someone that responded emotionally with enough enthusiasm to take action. Do it often enough and you'll gain the skill of putting your good copy in front of the right people.

Good job! Congratulations. Take more action. You'll continue to get better.
