Any tips for ebook cover in terms of sales?

I was in the middle of designing my ebook cover in gimp when I started thinking about conversions.

Are there any copywriters here who have any tips about ebook design?

Any colors that seem to do best? Fonts? Size? Placement on page?

Just thought I would see what you all have to say!

Thanks
Ashley

    Hi,

I'm expressing my personal feelings about covers from an end user perspective.

Colors depend on your niche. From what I've found, most covers share the same theme as the website. So you can get some ideas from there.

Also, covers can stop skimmers in their track, especially if your product is introduced at a latter part of the sales letter.

Bonus reports should also have covers. This is visually appealing. Also, I often find myself reading the text in the cover than the corresponding one in the sales letter first. Covers for bonuses yells at at scanners that there is more!

Lastly, the quality of the cover speaks about the quality of the product to some extent. A bad cover may yell out "cheap" and "unprofessional". A good cover indicates that there is a lot of work put down on the product.

    That's how I feel about covers .

    Regards,
    Revolves.

I share some same opinion with Revolves.

Color scheme on site affect your visitor's feeling. So it must blend. I think white an blue blend well. It's the color of most PC / Mac, it gives them a familiar feel.

This happens to me too. Often the text on the cover attracts me more.

Lots of people do judge a book by its cover. So did I most of the time, eventhough I know I shouldn't do that. A good cover gives me the physcology of owning a good book.

    Ashley,

My advice is to PM Kevin Lam. He knows a fair bit about design elements. So does Mr. Subtle, for that matter.

There may be other copywriters here who do as well but I can't think of any that I know of off the top of my head.

Go to a bookstore. Find books about what your ebook is about. Look at them.

These books are from publishing houses that spend millions of dollars figuring out what works well.

Wow thanks for all the replies. I am going to try making it similar to my site, for some reason I never thought to do that!

I then figure that testing would be the way to go, like Revolves said, it depends on the niche.

      Thanks for the Help!
      Ashley

ps I dont want to bother anyone! So i wont pm the two copywriters mentioned until I test it and put some effort into it first! I dont like seriously asking someone without trying first!

Keep the same things in mind, like headline (name of book), sub heading etc. Colors etc. should just look nice, be related to you niche and most important of all, it should look professional. Get a nice picture as well. Hope this helps.
