Heh, this one's brilliant. How to piss off the businesses you want to work so they hire you:

Publish A Blog Post Detailing A Certain Businesses Conversion Mistakes
Everyone’s favorite subject is themselves.

If you want to get a decision maker to read every word in one of your blog posts, then write it about their business.

This is an easy strategy because every business makes mistakes. So, these types of blog posts can be written about a potential client you want to work with.

All you have to do is write a blog post showing off all the major errors, explain why these errors need to be fix, and how to fix them.

What you’re doing is bringing awareness to their actual problems. Do it right and you will have given even complete strangers a real reason to hire you. If you know their problems, show them solutions, and then have a small pitch that you can do it for them, you’re set.

Thank you, Cam. I do a certain amount of that but I will increase it and see how it works for me. I'm not a copywriter. I work as a writer/editor/proofreader but the issues are very similar. If I see sites that have errors, I will always email the site owner first. Then if no response, I use your tip. I also do that for my clients if I believe they need more help other than what I already am doing for them.
I believe it's good because you're not being pushy. State the facts and reasons and let them judge for themselves.

Thank you! This is very effective. I got a major client this way. I emailed the owner and he responded right away. I've now been writing for him for almost three years consistently.

I don't know. Angering a company might make them less willing to hire you than a competitor. You might spur them into action, but to someone else in the end.

Though a lot of the other bits there look solid, I might even have to try and adjust my business tactic then.

I've never thought of this approach before! The main thing to remember, I suppose, would be to express your opinion/tips carefully to avoid offending the subject of your scrutiny. I've learned that business owners can be sensitive.

Wouldn't this be more effective if you locate a client you want, locate a piece they're actually using, point its weaknesses, show how you'd increase results?

I mean, send them back their postcard with your notes on it kind of approach.

And, may I add: the method as described is only half the battle; how do they find your post? (The other half)

Thanks a lot for sharing this. As a copywriter myself I know how much a struggle getting clients can be sometimes. This is really valuable.
