Auto Responder Series Copy

Hi

I want to create two email auto responder series for my e commerce site.

1 For people who have purchased goods
2 For those that have registered for the mailing list but have yet to buy

I was thinking of a mix of content only and sales offers. Not really sure what would be the best way really to go about this.

Are there any tips on creating something like this. I mean ideal length of mail. best use of content in fact anything would help out.

Thanks

Hi - just joined the forum and read your post. Your idea to mix content only with sales offers is spot on. Always lead with value first, so email 1 should be pure value - with an invitation to revisit the store and cash in on a discount coupon.

Then "sprinkle" in offers in emails 2, 3 etc. But, every email should provide value through content. Otherwise, emails later in the series get ignored. Later emails can be more salesy - but keep delivering value and more of your emails in the series will be opened.

    Good luck

    • Having a mix in which you mentioned is a great way to go about it. By keeping your focus on helping your customer will always pay off for you in the end. When you provide value to your customers consistently, your customers will appreciate it...and whenever it comes time for you to make an offer, they're more likely to make a purchase from you. Simply put: when you sow good seeds (helpful content), you'll eventually reap a good harvest (sales).

Since it is an e-commerce site what are you going to promote to those
who signed up? I guess that you sell different types of products?
EXCEPT you are selling just one type of product then it would be
hard to target those who signed up but haven't bought anything yet.

It would be a lot easier to target those who already bought a particular
    product.

There are a lot of variables to consider, but I disagree with the advice of providing content first, then selling your products.

You want to sell in EVERY single email.

Your readers are on your list because they want you to provide a solution, so give it to them.

This idea of providing lots of upfront value and content is just a way to justify a fear of selling.

    Your readers also need to:

    1) Be conditioned to click your links
    2) See your often frequently and recently

A simple weekly email sequence could look like this:

    Email #1: Promo
    Email #2: Promo
    Email #3: Reveal your offer
    Email #4: Reminder
    Email #4: Reminder

This is especially good for e-commerce since you have a large catalog of products you'll probably want to cycle through.

I'd start by promoting your Top Sellers.

You could put both of those targets on the autoresponder sequence I outlined above, and create a separate follow-up email sequence for buyers that:

    1) Validates their decision to buy (to minimize returns)
    2) Offers upsells

P.S. When I write client emails, they're usually around 150-300 words.

Shoot me a message if you'd like to discuss further.

Who's your customer and what are they used to getting? I expect a certain type of email from whatever list I'm joining.

Some sell all the time and I still read them.

Some do content and sales and I still read them.

But if I expect one thing from you and you send stuff I didn't ask for I'll ignore you until you disappear or I'll do the logical thing and opt out.
