        You said "it's" the headline.

Your ENTIRE original post is "its the headline...right?".

You said "Its" the headline... what is "it"?

So... my question is "what on earth are you asking?"

My basic question is this....is the headline likely to be responsible for the really high bounce rate considering the great conversion rate of people who stay to read?

You're always going to get a really high bounce rate on a salesletter.

People generally only have 2 options on a salesletter... buy or bounce. (Sometimes they can opt-in to a list.)

Don't worry about the bounce rate on a salesletter, it doesn't mean anything.

Instead, I'd be looking at getting some tracking mechanisms on there to determine what people are doing on your site.

I use Conversion Prophet and it tells me what percentage of people stay for various time periods -- which is a good way to determine how effective your headline etc is.

There are also interactive trackers (John Rits sells one) that allow you to see how far people are scrolling, what elements they are interacting with etc.

                  Thanks Kyle

75% bounce does seem a little high to me though...but this is my first sales letter type site, so I dont know!

I did buy conversion prophet for my last site and it looked great, but i had a windows server then and it didnt work on that type of server...might have to ask Pete Yoon to give me another chance.

                  Cheers

Remember, a "bounce" is anyone that leaves your site without visiting any other pages. i.e. They land on a certain page and then leave your site without visiting any other pages.

If you're using a salesletter and the ONLY link you have on your page is to buy, then the only other page they can possibly visit is your order page.

So your bounce rate will be (give or take based on various factors) the percentage of people that don't click on your buy button. (Unless you have other links on your page.)

Everyone else will be classified as a bounce. They might stay on your site for 5 minutes and read a decent amount of copy... even be interested in buying... but maybe they don't like the price... as long as they haven't visited any other pages on your site they will still be a bounce when they leave.

Ahhh....ok....I didn't realise that with bounce rates...I thought it was a time thing not a page view thing...thanks Kyle....how about the length of visit?

Mine is pretty short...attached is an image of my analytics account.

I think these figures are pretty poor....but I have nothing to compare this too...>80% leave in first 10 seconds!

Yes I think it is the headline.

There is no hook. Start by telling a story and weaving it in your letter somehow.

People want to know that some dude like them can benefit from your product.

So "Some dude cracked the code and traded his way...." is better than "Discover how to crack the code"

                        Or

"Some dude thought he would be poor forever..."

You are using all of the buzz words but there is no hook.

Instead of a story, another hook could be the conspiracy:

"The insiders get rich and you are poor because they wont tell you the secrets" of course you wouldn't use that but it could be a good theme.

It could be a blend of the story and the conspiracy:
"Some dude stumbled into documents of secret stock society and is now living the high life"

Everyone suspects that there are "fat cats" who control the market and make money easily by knowing the secrets.

Confirm these suspicions in a way that makes them identify your product with their situation.

Maybe your character can be a "Mr. X" type who is now in hiding because he fears the repercussions of revealing these secrets.

A few thoughts. Hope that gives you some ideas.

                        Regards,
                        Daniel

Well, it could be a traffic factor.

Where is your traffic coming from? If it's targeted adwords traffic then those stats aren't good... but if it's random social media traffic then it's probably OK.

If your traffic is targeted then it's your headline/deck copy that's at fault.

As a very general guide, if you can get 50% to stay more than 20 seconds then your headline/deck copy/lead is doing it's job.

Just took a quick look at your site, the first thing I would test is removing that header graphic. It's slow to load and looks like something you'd find on a dodgy adsense site.

I would actually do a number of things or in the very least test them....

The contrast between the background and the main panel doesn't bring the words out enough. I would probably use a higher contrasting background color and make the main panel a solid color (I prefer white but I have seen some nice looking tans that present well). I am no expert but found reading the words a bit annoying because of the background.

I would also reduce the amount of types of fonts that you are using. Once again, test them to see what works best. I believe I can count at least 3, possibly 4 different fonts. I would probably reduce them down to two.

Where are the benefits? I don't see many at all up top...I have to scroll all the way down the page to get to them. If you can post them high up in your sales letter where a visitor can start dreaming the dream.

What you are giving is too far down in the sales letter and aren't easily seen- I think this is in large part to the fact that the main panel background makes it hard to read the page.

Not enough "white space"- Spacing is everything in a sales letter. If you don't space appropiately, you make it so someone can't scan it. If you can't scan it, then chances are you are going to lose sales.

I would also test spacing out your bullets all over your ad copy (in 3's or 5's). Once again, people scan sales letters.

Testimonials are all grouped together and are way down the page...why? Why not test intermingling your testimonials throughout your ad copy?

Testing is everything man. If you aren't getting the conversions you want, you should be tweaking and split testing until you get it up to where you want it to be.

well when i first visited you website i noticed a few things these might be the issue.

                              • Your Header - its too light, try reducing the size of it.
                              • the background - its hard to read the headline straight away, try changing the background in the content box to just white...it would be easier to read.
                              • Try using a bit more red in the headline too.

Your bounce rate is just a percentage measurement of the amount of time a visitor spends on a page of your website.

Bounce rate is more important on landing pages... The more time a visitor spends on your landing page, the greater your chances are of them filling out your form.

As far as an actual "bounce" is concerned... Kyle explained it best.

    Hi Barry,

Just a moment, please. Make a step back and test it as an outsider to interpret what you see here written down -"its the headline...right?"- and nothing else.

It may be hard to be helpful, if something is missing in the question, e.g. the headline about what you would have asked.

So, please be a bit more patient, you asked for help after all.

    Peace,

    Sandor
