Marketing For 30 Years

I've come to realize that there are spectacular marketers and salesmen that have been at it for 30 years or more, but when I sit down to talk to them about marketing on the Internet and giving them advice, they look at me like a marketing GOD.

To me and you, it's like everyday normal stuff... almost common knowledge. But to the person I talked to yesterday, everything I was saying was "brilliant". I mean... I am pretty creative and strategic, but the things I was saying... really wasn't all that hard.

I say, "We need to have a newsletter and give away a report on *******"..... "oh yeah, that is a great idea".

I'd say, "We need to give the visitor a reason to stay on the website and a reason to request the report."...... "OMG, you're so right".

Hey, let's have testimonials...... "Yeah, you're right!".....
It would be great if you can have pictures of them too..... "oh yeah!, you're right on!"......
It would be even better if we can get a URL to that company to give yourself more credibility..... "that's brilliant!"

There was something else I said and he said he got chills. You kidding me? Of course, he was dead serious. I could see the excitement on his face as he's taking notes of everything I was saying.

We talked for about 2 hours and by the end of it, he looked at me like some savior or something. I'm over here impressed with his background... author, speaker, coach, consultant and marketer of more than 30 years.... I haven't even lived that long yet!

Point is, there are LOTS of folks out there who are not as caught up as we are in how Internet marketing and sales copy online works. This has turned out to be good money for me... good enough to be about $15,000+ for 2010 with this client. Don't be afraid to open your mouth and strut your stuff... even if you feel like it's common sense. It might be common sense to you, but it might not be for others.

P.S. That one comment I said and he got goose bumps over.... to be honest.... I kinda felt dumb because I didn't know what he was talking about. He was trying to come up with a moniker (I didn't remember what that meant at the time, lol)... basically an alias. I gave him one I thought he could try... hold and behold... he loved it.

Good for you, Kevin. As one of my colleagues is rather fond of saying...

"In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."

Never underestimate the value of what you have or are learning.

    Again, good for you,

  • Haha yep, I remember telling the department at my college about these methods and they all wanted to setup a meeting of some sort for tutors to take notes.

Fortunately at university it all changed and internet marketing was a module in my course. Nonetheless a lot of people still need teaching, because due to their success doing it offline they havn't felt the need to try online so they never approach that method, leaving them a majority of profit lying around collecting Web Dust hehe.

    Thanks, Jason.

Thanks, Rick. I mainly wanted to post this as an encouragement for those who might not have the confidence in themselves.

Jason, someday, these guys will realize offline marketing is not going to be enough. Word-of-mouth and one-on-one is powerful, but it is just too time consuming. I'm working on something where it is almost completely on autopilot (working with MLM) and still make a million dollars by 2011.

Justin, of course. He'll also be referring his friends over to me, so I'll be good to go to do some coaching and consulting myself.

Yeah, it's amazing how many people miss the obvious. Sometimes you can spend five minutes looking at a client's web site, and then show them how they could double their sales revenue within a month. Nice when it happens.

I believe I can say "That's brilliant" and not look clueless regarding the above quote. Thank you Kevin, excellent post.

It is a great reminder to know that your trade is valuable, and what has become second nature to you is exotic to most other people.

There was a point where if we saw one more headline that prefaced with, "Who Else Wants To..." or "Who Else Wants to Discover How To..." we might go mad! What we learned however is though however overplayed these headlines and strategies may appear, to the uninitiated they are still brand new and diamonds.

Your knowledge presented to the mundane is like a magic trick they've never seen before. And you will appear to borderline on the supernatural.

When people affix their mind on such a thing as this, copy writing, a simple thing it becomes demystified and then the realization sets in that like anything else in this material world requires actual work.

Theory gets us only intellectual enjoyment, what is needed is practice!
