Copywriting assignment. (i.e. Secret Life of a Copywriter)
Hi all,
I get inspiration from the weirdest and most unlikely of places.
For me, I can only write when I am inspired. And my heart needs to soar for me to do my best work.
I had a free moment yesterday and as a way to do something I would never normally do, I visited a comic book store.
To their credit, it's the biggest comic book store around here. I was on overwhelm with all the creativity that oozed. Gems. And the staff and owner were so passionate, they would literally gush about the comic books.
By the time I was done, the folks there gifted me with over a dozen comic books and I have to acknowledge. Even though I have never read one before.
And my favorite comic book title (i.e. headline) so far?
The story lines and copy are brilliant. Succint. Concise. To the point, at an emotional level. They ROCK.
Now, I have never visited a comic book store in my life. Like never. Don't ask me why, I don't know. But I did yesterday.
But it's my new go to place for inspiration.
"Here's your assignment Mr. Phelps, if you should choose to accept it." (i.e. Quote from the original "Mission Impossible.")
Do something you have never done before. Relish in it. Like really spend the time and do something you have never done before and maybe will never do again.
Why? Just to do it. And have your mind warped and expanded by the process. Experience the pure inspiration and enthusiasm of the owners and staff with fresh eyes.
It's an eye opener. I guarantee.
Comic book readers are a small but rabid audience. Ultra-rabid. The whole genre has been reinvented over the last decade. I was amazed.

Sheesh, I'm over 50 and I thought "what the heck, this should be kinda unusual."

- "Kick-Ass" which just came out as a movie.
- "Chew" -- This one is just plain weird and truly original thinking.
- "Walking Dead" has been picked up by some studio as a series.

"Dante's Inferno--GO TO H***."
