COPY WRITING

I found this site earlier today and found it interesting. You paste in a sample of your writing and the site analyzes it and informs you which notable author your style most resembles. They also give you some code to paste into your blog to display the results.

Probably just a means to sell amazon books, but neato just the same. Here's the link:

That is interesting!

Here's what I found - depending on the niche I'm writing for...the author compared to me is different.

Looked carefully and I am writing in different styles for several main niches...though I've never given it any thought.

Kurt Vonnegut
Arthur C Clark
Margaret Atwood
Ian Fleming

I tried two samples. The first said I wrote like David Foster Wallace. I checked him out and he killed himself in 08.

The other was Stephen King. Wowza! :rolleyes:

I write like Raymond Chandler, never read any of his work but he's apparently writes crime thrillers and detective stories. Anybody fancy some scary content written on the dogs niche? :-)

But does it really analyze and compare your writing style

Are you suggesting this may just be a clever viral tool to generate traffic? That's craziness

Seriously though, how could it even compare you to other writers?

It's a neat concept and I'm not trying to be negative, but it's just clever viral marketing at work...

What writer/blogger/marketer wouldn't be curious and check it out? They've got the viral part of it down... Easy posting to Facebook, Twitter, etc...

They're building a list. And they're driving a ton of traffic (43k+ links and in the Alexa top 100k).

Smart marketing... And even though I personally think it's just a novelty, it did say I write like Dan Brown, who's one of my favorite authors. Pretty cool idea.

I checked it out and put in some of my fiction that I have in the works. Tried it about 6 different times my results were.

Can you imagine what kind of book I could write if I really had the writing chops of these three authors?

  For giggles I took excerpts from actual writers like Stephen King, Vonnegut, etc. and put them in to see if the "writes like" matched. It worked for me every time, so maybe there is some decent calcuating going on.

I tried this four times and got 1 Lewis Carrol, 2 David Foster Wallaces and 1 Stephen King. I'm not sure what to do with all of that.

It probably runs by looking at the number of words your sample is
and analyzing which words you used.

This method was used a long time ago to try to establish whether
or not Shakespeare and Sir Francis Bacon were the same guy
(it found they weren't I believe). This was before PC computers,
maybe in the punchcard days.

Not too sure about this...tried a number of articles I had sitting on the hard disk,

results I write like,
Dan Brown
David Foster Wallace,
Ray Bradbury,
Cory Doctorow,
Gertrude Stein,
Margeret Atwood.

Thought I wrote them all pretty much the same. Can anyone let me know if the above writers all had similar styles?

Fun to test, wonder which of the above writes the best converting articles?
