Should I use an Exit Pop or Not?

So I have a new sales letter site. But I also want to gather optins for a list to further promote my product. I really don't want to embed it within my letter to break the flow, unless I put it at the top.

I am thinking of doing an exit pop up.

Would you recommend this or prefer another way?

Secondly...

What do you use in Wordpress to make a great exit pop where you can add your own HTML code, page, and adjust the size of the popup? I can't seem to find a good plugin for this that actually lets you do all html.

Thanks!

Check-out exitsplash.com for an exit script and then you can redirect visitors to a squeeze page as they leave. Alternatively, you might create a squeeze page on the front end before they hit the sales page.

There may be ways to work-in the opt-in form inside your salespage where it fits nicely, but, yes, this can interrupt the flow and so I don't usually like to do this. Same thing with DHTML fly-ins.

    Look up virtual smart agent.

I've used it to increase conversions in the past. But sometimes it really p*sses the reader off, so don't use it unless you expect the visitor to never visit again.

Edit: I'm no expert at copywriting, take my suggestions with a grain of salt.

    Not.

For all the reasons given in this post and this thread.

A large percentage of people will visit your site several times before they actually buy.

Using an exit pop brands your site as being annoying (so people are less likely to return).

    Now... answer your own question.
