Are there a list of companies around here that hire copywriters? Also can you make at least 100k per year working for someone else?

You need to be a good copywriter to earn 100k per year. Just have your good portfolio in place with proofs showing your copy converts.

First build your reputation here gather few testimonials and then shoot the world with your brilliant copywriting bullets(techniques) and you will be able to scale up yourself to 100k per year.

Sir Gary Halbert said in one of his newsletter that he would be upset(something like that, I don't remember that exact word) if he was not able to make 100k in a month.

Now that's an inspiration for me.

    Warren.

Warriors for hire is a great section it seems. But please dont try forums like digital point.

As Warren Richards said, building a portfolio is very important. Not to mention your own sales page.

Let me ask you two questions:

Question #1: How much would a list like that be worth to you?

Question #2: How much would you sell access to that list if you already had the information?

    Food for thought,

    Mike

P.S. I'll echo what Warren said. The top companies want to see a strong track record of hits and happy client testimonials. They don't gamble big money on "unproven" copywriters, regardless of what their potential abilities might be.

    1. I dont really know if there's a list of companies out here that want copywriters.
    2. Can someone make a $100k per month on copy - yes. But the real question is - can you make a $100k per month.

That would depend on how good you are. Are you looking for a full time job or contract job etc. You might want to mention what it is you offer/looking for in your signature - that should help.

Also helps if you know the man upstairs

Why don't you try posting your profile on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook?

I just joined all three and have had loads of hits to my website and I even had a few leads which is great. Type 'Direct Mail' into Twitter and it will pull up the companies on Twitter who would potentially hire a good copywriter - but you do have to build a following and ensure that the tweets you send out are gems...it helps if you have a blog so that you can showcase your knowledge and blog about it.

I use blogger.com and you can share your blog on Twitter with it which is really cool. As long as you have some fab stuff, have a great website including samples and testimonials etc, people who click on your profile will see what you do and hopefully get in touch.

I'm new to it all and after setting up my account only on Monday, I have managed to get a few Direct Mail companies to follow me and a Copywriting company has added me to their list....fingers crossed then!

        best of luck...

The general consensus is people never hire a copywriter who can't sell himself.

    Think about positioning.

    That's also a Halbertism.

Work your ass off to get one client and leverage it.

There are tons of companies that hire copywriters. Ad agencies, for one. Small businesses. Internet marketing companies. Information marketers. etc...

But honestly, if you have to ask a question like that you're probably not at the level where you'd be able to land a gig that pays 6 figures. That's a Senior Copywriter level gig at most agenices/large companies. Plan on 7-10 years experience to even get your foot in the door.

That's why freelancing is the way to go. And the best copywriters in the world have a few clients who they work for over and over again. Carlton has written loads of copy for TRS. Clayton Makepeace writes for Phillips, Boardroom, and a couple of other folks. Hell, even Eugene Schwartz only worked for a few big-name clients. The same is true of any successful freelancer I know. Leverage a few successful promotions into a long-term relationship with a few select clients who understand and appreciate what you do.

You might want to check out John Carlton's Freelance Course. He doesn't try to B.S. you with the promise of instant riches. Instead, he bluntly explains that you'll have to do a fair amount of what he calls "shameless whoring"...writing copy for cheap to get experience and build a portfolio. When you can show consistent results can you start going after "real" clients that pay decent fees.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. Becoming a six figure copywriter is not that hard if you work at it. But you're not going to get there overnight, no matter what some people claim.

If you can find someone to copy cheif you, that's also a good way to go. You'll spend a couple of years working your ass off and not making a ton of money...but you'll also get invalubale insights, business connections, and guidance from a real pro.

In fact, if you want to be an A-list copywriter, you pretty much have to be a copy cub first. I can't think of a single A lister who didn't spend a fair amount of time as a copy cub.

That said, copywriting is definitely a faster road to a good living than most career paths. And the flexibility and freedom can't be beat. Just don't buy into the B.S. about instant success.
