2 Copywriting Legends, One Post...

Hey gang,

Got a couple of really cool things to mention to you guys
today (it's been a busy freakin' day, in a good way!)

A) David Deutsch

Let's just say "hypothetically" that David Deutsch was
excited about launching a new blog...

And while we're "just saying"... let's just say that David was
totally open to any and all ideas from the copywriting and
marketing community in terms of topics, content, media, etc.

If all that were true, and you could get David Deutsch to
do EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANTED on his blog...

...what would that be?

Video? Audios? Specific "how-to"? Fascinating tales from
the trenches and tawdry gossip from behind the magic curtain?

Let's pretend that it was from your mouth to David's ear...

What would you love to have David blog about?

B) David Garfinkel

Imagine that his infamous Copywriting Templates training course
was off the market, nearly impossible to get your hands on, and
rarely ever became available to actually buy online...

...well, all of that's true, so you don't have to imagine.

David was telling me today about a training program he's been
doing with some hypnosis guy (I don't know the dude). He said
that they were offering Copywriting Templates as part of the deal
and that if any CW forum folks wanted to take advantage, that they
were absolutely welcome to do so.

This product has come up in conversation here many times over
the years from folks looking to buy and to the best of my knowledge
the only way to get it was to be part of David's mentoring program.

I didn't ask David how long the offer will be up and he didn't say,
so I have no idea if you need to hurry on this or not, but I do know
that he's reduced the price on the course 40% for this offer and
added a multiple payment plan to make it affordable to all.

Here's a "sneaky" back door link (it's supposed to be only for folks
on the hypnotist's list) - and NO, it's not an affiliate link you cynical
*******s, I won't see a single dime for mentioning this to you:

http://copywritingtemplates.com/igor

Maybe next week Clayton Makepeace and Gary Bencivenga will
hit me up and I'll have to post another one of these...

...I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

Best,

Brian

Man o man this forum is getting better by the minute...with Colm starting off the list
of marketers worth following... and now Brian getting David and Garf sharing their goodies.

Excuse me while I get the warm fuzzy feelings...please.

    All the best,
    Ewen

You wouldn't happened to have blackmail photos of either one to make this happen, would you? Hypothetically of course.

    Just kidding Brian.

    Okay, I'll bite.

I'd love to read something on David's sequence on how he goes from start to end on a new project.

To keep it more interesting for most of his future readers, he could focus on things like when does he start working on his headlines... does he do sessions of just writing headlines, bullets or fascinations (I've read that Parris Lampropoulos writes 700 hundred bullets and fascinations for every project)...

In other words, what does David do that helps him create the copy that makes tons of sales and has so many other copywriters in awe over?

It could definitely a bunch of articles to cover different facets of what he does when he writes copy.

    Hope that helps,

    Mike

Since Mike has put his order in, here's mine.

Would love to know what steps David D. takes when he is called in to beat a control.

Don't mind what format it comes in, just the how to's please.

Thank you Brian and the two David's for your generosity.

      All the best,
      Ewen

"copywriting templates" - sigh. Just tell the punters what you have, what it does, why they should have one too, the price and where to get it. All in your own "voice" - just like you're talking one on one to your best mate (pal).

Now take those "copywriting templates" and throw them to the sh*thouse.

I was one of the first to see David Garfinkel's Copywriting Templates. In fact, at one of my seminars, David used the templates with the audience to put together an nearly world class letter in just about 90 minutes.

He was doing this with an audience that had never written copy before.

David Garfinkel is one of the lesser known A list copywriters. He's a perfectionist and this product is first rate. His technical mastery of copy is without par.

Of course, if you're struggling on the D list you probably won't recognize the value.

Not to ignore the OTHER David, my good friend David Deutsch.

David D. is arguably one of the best copywriters around today.

He holds major controls for big mailers in different niches.

David never talks about what he does. I did however worm the information out of him years ago by using my NLP Ninja skills.

Basically I modeled David Deutsch (and David Garfinkel and John Carlton and Brian Keith Voiles) when I did NLP Copywriting II.

I goes inside the heads of these copywriters. It's not about headlines.

        It's about their thinking process.

        Both David's are wonderful teachers.

Let me throw out a few words about the Davids.

Garfinkel - The world's greatest copywriting coach. I should know. He was my coach.

Deutsch - My lunch buddy. We try to have a nice meal and chat together every few months. It's been a while but we're on for next week.

Anything you can learn from either of these giants is worth your time.

Oh... and I've got Garfinkel's templates. If you're just starting out, these are pure gold.

          Hi Brian,

Ok, I am baring my soul here a bit--and if I could get away with this, I would.

When you listen to the music of famous musicians, it's the stuff that never makes it into mass distribution is what I want to hear.

For instance, here's an outtake of Layla. Arguably one of the most definitive rock songs ever.
As you listen, compared to the final piece, you'll probably notice something's missing.

Actually a lot of things are missing compared to the piece everyone has come to know and love. The core is there, but the structure is too loose and the sweetening just isn't concert pitch.

You can't put your finger on exactly what's off. But in your heart, you *KNOW* it's not their best work.

Normally, the public will never hear the outtakes. They are buried.

Years ago, a good friend of mine would do "dumpster diving" at the back of recording studios and scrounge for all the used tapes of recording sessions and re-sell the tapes at a discount. There were gems buried in there. Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, etc.

          Immortal.

But by and large the outtake recordings sucked. Until they didn't--and they were captured for eternity and for everyone to appreciate.

          So my request is simple:

I am looking for copywriting "outtakes." I would like to see the ever changing improvement process of a winning piece. The benefit to every copywriter would be enormous.

For instance, I have reams of handwritten notes where world class copywriters critique their own copy. Massaging it. Kneading it like dough on a flat board. Molding it, like a clay sculpture.

There's a myth that pervades the industry, that a guy like Joe Karbo writes a million dollar sales letter in 4 hours on the beach.

I think a bit differently. It's the massaging, kneading, sculpting process as practitioners we go through.

I would appreciate seeing the process others go through. Good and bad. Warts and all.

Do that and I'll visit that blog every single day.

          - Rick Duris

PS: Last metaphor and I'll quit. In Laguna Beach, we have a fair called the Sawdust Festival. Artists of every kind imaginable sell as well as demonstrate how they create their art.

I'm constantly mesmerized. Especially the glassblowers. How they turn a lump of sand into a work of art just blows my mind.

To be fair, I think what Harlan meant is not that David D.
REFUSES to talk about what he does...

...just that he's the complete opposite of a chest-thumper.

He's certainly not a "Look At Me" attention seeker.

And lord knows he's earned the right to crow and peacock
about it if he so chose.

    And Dan said:

Some I create, some I nick as I come across them and
they make me laugh. I keep a folder in my Pictures
directory called "Funny" and I'm habitual about right-clicking
    and "Save Image As..."

Sort of a comedic swipe file of sorts.

Thanks everybody for your thoughts and "requests".
I'll be passing them on to David for inspiration.

    Best,

    Brian

Brian, I certainly agree with your comments about David D. And I'll add that he's obviously a nice guy who's not taken with himself like so many others in this field.

I don't, however, agree with you regarding "what Harlan meant". He's a skilled communicator, and he certainly has the ability to say what he means.
