Make your words sell - free!

Hey all,

I just found a great link which is giving away two books on advertising absolutely free as a download - 'Make your words sell' and 'Make your content presell'.

I have no idea if they are any good, but apparently both have had good reviews on other forums...I have just downloaded them both and will read them when I get the time...

Make Your Words Sell!

    Thanks for the link arfasaira.

Looks promising...139 page ebook written by Ken Evoy, who is pretty well known.

    All the best - Keith

I downloaded this a few days ago, but haven't had the chance to read it yet. However, if it's anything like Mr. Evoy's other products... I certainly recommend it.

This has been available for several months if not years now, an excellent guide for both beginners and experts, definitely worth a read!

I will check it out shortly.

It sounds like a very helpful tool for who don't really have a good writing skill.

    arfasaira,
Thank you for this link. I already have (and refer) to the first one, but did not have "Make Your Content Pre-Sell" I have downloaded it and will read it later this evening. I am hoping it is a little shorter than the first one, though, or it will be just skimming.

I may be a man alone here, but I think MYWS is a pretty poor book.

If you're new, I would seriously take its advice with a shovel of salt.

Haven't read the other one though.

Not meaning to crap on your share arfasaira - in fact I whole-heartedly appreciate the gesture.

Just trying to share some perspective.

      hmmm....interesting! Why is it poor?

I'm new to copywriting myself and would appreciate any nudge in the right direction - I would love to know why you think its not all that and what you would suggest instead.

I have at home Words that Sell and thought it was certainly most helpful and then this link as well, but it would be good to hear from a seasoned pro what you use instead!

No, you're not alone at all. Much though I appreciate the OP's sharing gesture, I also think it's pretty poor, terribly old-fashioned and seriously misguided in (many) places. I instinctively think of it as "part of the problem", rather than "part of the solution".

    arfa,

I don't know how I learned, to be honest.

I know I wrote good copy when I started with Vin 15 months ago. He asked me what I'd read. Threw out names like Schwab... Caples... and Ogilvy.

Got a blank stare in return.

Now obviously SINCE then I've read most of that stuff.. and have it sitting on my bookshelf.

And that's where I suggest you start.

Check out the sticky on good copywriting books. Everyone has their favorite(s)... but they're all brilliant.

I found MYWS filled with fluff and BS. You buy the Schwab book for $10 or whatever and there's enough marketing insight in there to take your game to a whole other level.

From what I see here this looks like a very useful download. I just downloaded it and skimmed it, it is over 200pp but it is definitely something I will spend some time looking into more thoroughly The second download link doesn't work by the way.

Another course that seems similar to this is the 31 days to better blogging by Darren Rowse is an excellent course I am working on now that teaches you just one thing about blogging daily for 31 days.

That "Make Your Words Sell" is so rinky-dink I was waiting for the animated gifs to appear - to go with the naff writing. With corny lines like "But when you come to put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) it never seems to work out quite the same."

You'd be better off reading everything by Gary Halbert. He was the master.

Make Your Words Sell was one of the first ebooks I bought around 1999 or 2000. Spent about $30 for it at the time and was happy with my purchase then as I needed to write the website pages for the massage therapy center I owned then. It's been a free download for a few years now.

MYWS was co-written by the late Joe Robson (UK copywriter) and Ken Evoy.

In my opinion, the original target market was new(er) online marketers who had to sit down and write their first online salesletter and didn't know how. It wasn't written to teach professional level copywriting per se... although that ebook was the first spot where I learn certain copywriting techniques like the "So What?" test.

Part of the "cutesy" look and tone of the text is the Evoy flavoring if you will. You'd see the same flavoring in other Evoy ebooks like SiteSell too.

Is it the best copywriting book ever?

      No.

But it does have some useful sections especially for the non-copywriter who has to write their first online salesletter.

      Hope that helps,

      Mike
