Selling.... without selling. A great post you should read!!

I thought I'd throw this out there for everybody because it has really helped me out over the past couple years. I think it's a must read for all the people who have mini-sites but just aren't converting.

Desperation and Demand Are a Double-Edged Sword…

I have learned more from Chris Rempel than any single 'guru' if measured by all around profitability from affiliate marketing. David Oligivy and Gary Halbert are up there too but they are focused on copywriting 100% (Chris teaches most everything about online business in general - copywriting just being one of the things)

Let me know what you think!

Small point: Desperation isn't a Sales Pitch.

You can be confident, not need the money, and still put forth a direct sales pitch.

A lot of "without selling" copy comes across as so much gibberish. Companies talking to themselves, about their self image. Narcissistic. Self satisfied. Occasionally smug.

Make sure the person isn't simply bad at selling. Or simply dislikes sales without having tried to sell.

Bad copy is bad copy. There are dozens of reasons for it.

Totally agree with you - one of the best posts I've come across in a long while. I'm a senior copywriter with 15 years working in ad agencies in London, but there are concepts in that post that were refreshing and inspirational for me as an internet marketer. Thanks for introducing me to this guy's blog!

I think Halbert did it best with his "Clients Suck" non-pitch, pitch. He had them lining up begging him to take their money.

I agree with John (as I understood his point, at least).

The important thing about this post is the idea of the writer not needing to make the sale. This relaxes the reader and induces trust.

Someone who emphasizes this point in face to face selling - versus copywriting - is Ari Galper. What the post is recommending parallels Ari's technique, but on the page.

Other ways you can disarm the reader:

      * Look, I don't know whether or not I'm the right consultant for you.

      * Whether you buy from me or from someone else, I want to make sure you have the right information to make a good decision.

      * Leave your wallet at home. The seminar is purely informational.

      Etc.
