Do even professional copywriters have those days where they say screw this I don't feel like writing today? I get this image that their so passionate they just live every moment wanting to write. I don't so I feel guilty. Is all this talk of having so much passion for something that they would do it for free just talk? Also that day when you write good enough to make a good living at it does the " what I wrote sucks" go away? You would think so:confused: Oh yeah is there anybody who does make a good living copywriting, at least over $50,000

    Dude... break up those paragraphs!

Every pro has days... weeks... maybe even months they don't feel like writing. It happens. Don't feel guilty. Just push yourself through it.

When I have those "uninspired days" I do the stuff that's more analytical - a rough draft of what I want to say, guarantees, bonuses, bullet points - the stuff that jumps out at you.

Then on my inspired days I go back to the harder stuff like the headline.

We all love what we do... but there are certainly days when we don't feel like working

And the whole "What I wrote sucks" thing is the mark of a good copywriter.

You should ALWAYS be second-guessing yourself, striving to make your work better - so that when you hand it over to your client you KNOW they've got the best damn copy around.

Guys who don't slave over their work often produce sub-par results.

    Feel better?

I agree with what Daniel wrote. I also feel that you shouldn't write (no matter how much money you stand to lose) unless what you are writing is quality work. You are doing your clients a disservice by giving them poorly written material.

On a side note, damn it sucks when you have writers block!

I work with a lot of copyrights who frequently use writers block, "uninspired day" or just can't be bothered as reasons for not completing work.

Everyone gets them and the truth is if you don't learn to deal with the (i.e. motivational techniques) it can quickly ruin something you actually enjoy doing.

My advice to my copyrighter friends - don't sicken yourself because the magic isn't happening all at once.

Daniel gave you a lot of solid advice.

Personally, I write copy everyday whether I feel like it or not. When I'm writing rough copy, I don't care what comes out. I've even been known to type something like "I need a killer headline here" during the rough copy stage and just keep going.

BUT... I edit & rework my copy like a madman before it ever leaves my desk. I rework it as many as it takes until I'm happy with it and then it's sent to my client.

I don't remember the exact quote by Gary Bencivenga but he once said his rough drafts were as bad or worse than any other copywriter... but by the time he got done editing, polishing, and tightening it up, then it was then world-class copy.
