Anyone Have A Clayton Makepeace Swipe?

Hey folks,

I know Clayton has stuff out there. Anyone have a copy of ones of his ads in their swipe file?

Much appreciated.

All the best,

Angel

    Hi Angel,

I've got a whole drawer-full of 'em ... financial, health, and info-marketing. What type of promotion are you looking for?

      Len,

Really, any and all. Just realized today I have NO Makepeace swipes in my file and would really love to add some.

If you can share a few, that would be fantastic. Or just point me in the right direction.

      All the best,

      Angel

Can anyone explain this thread to me? I don't know what a swipe is.

Angel - I'm scanning one of those swipes for you now.

Stephen - Depends on the product... I believe some were written by Clayton ... but I know some were done by other copywriters (including me). I'll take a look and get back to you.

The "Swipe of the Week" series is mostly from other copywriters. I know I covered a 3-way headline/cover test by Bob Bly & Clayton, but that may be the only ones featuring Clayton's copy. I've been too busy to keep up with them of late...

Sure thing, Jennifer. A "swipe" is simply a piece written by another copywriter that you keep (in a "swipe file") and refer to for ideas in your own copy.

@ Stephen - I've been through the website a few times. Thing is, not sure what Clayton wrote, and what one of his hires writers or cubs wrote.

The trouble distinguishing is, the copy is all really quite good.

@ Len - I really appreciate it. And I'm looking forward to it.

Don't have the time to write emails that will get opened, read and your reader to take action then leave me a message. I will get back to you within 48 hrs.

      Len,

I wonder if Clayton wrote the Chlorella ad.

Swipe Files | The Total Package

      Fourth row, on the right.

Good stuff, and I noticed a lot of similarities to the CoQ10 ad you kindly provided.

Could've just been a cub that swiped his CoQ10 promo, but never know.

      Any thoughts?

      All the best,

      Angel

Yeah, I've got a ton of 'em too. I'll try to scan one or two a month and share them with folks. Unfortunately, the tabloids are too big for my scanner... lol

        Len,

Man, that would be greatly appreciated by everyone.

        Pretty damn sure of it.

        Best,

        Angel

        PS. Get a bigger scanner.

    Get on the list here...

--> Free Financial Investment Publication | Money and Markets

Clayton and his team handle all their marketing and copy needs (correct me if I'm wrong Len)

Also, here's some non-Clayton sexy time...

--> FREE Swipe File | The Total Package

Clayton's "The $0.23 Life Saver Your Doctor Will Never Tell You About" package is online somewhere, I think. Pretty sure it was uploaded one Christmas or New Year. Worth trying to hunt that down.

    FINALLY...

Steal These Secrets | The Total Package

    Boom!

Steal These Secrets: Volume 2 | The Total Package

    And boom!

@ Colm - Signed up on the Money And Markets site. Both you and Len advised me of it. Does Clayton write all their emails and promotions? Just curious. Either way, going to scour the site.

I'll look into the the $0.23 promo. Maybe I can dig it up online.

        Appreciated!

@ Mike - Thanks for the advice. After both you and Colm recommended the product, think I'll go ahead and pick it up.

I'll start with 1 and go from there.

        Thanks guys.

I know I've got at least two hardcopies of that one ... maybe even in different formats (tabloid, bookalog, etc.)... I'll see what I can do.

Still, I highly recommend both of Clayton's Steal These Secrets products. I don't usually buy my swipes ... but if I didn't already them, I'd plunk down the dollars in a second.

@ Angel - No, Clayton didn't write the Chlorella piece. That one's by Carline Anglade Cole (who studied under him). Here's the link to an article about the pice by Larry Owen, who handled the design: Designing a direct-mail winner | The Total Package

As for the Money & Markets copy ... Clayton does the copywriting for their major "product-of-the-month" promotions to their house file. And he's also handled direct mail packages for them in the past.

I wrote a bunch of Weiss promotions back when I worked for Clayton. And so did a few of Clayton's other copywriters ... but not sure what the current situation is. I know they do have 2-4 of their own in-house copywriters.

Almost forgot: Money & Markets has a sister-publication you'll want to sign up for too: http://www.uncommonwisdomdaily.com

    Angel,
Why not sign up on the mailing lists of Claytons clients ? He is quite open who he writes for and then you can get the new stuff directly.
