Hello all,

I'm a UK based writer and to be honest, i quite enjoy it.

I run a few websites, go to college, and have a part time job, so i don't paticulary need to work for $stupid/per hour, but the extra cash wouldn't go a miss!

Is it something worth chasing, or am i going to get flooded with $0.02 per word jobs?

Thanks,

Grant

Positioning, positioning, positioning. Market yourself as an article writer without differentiating your services at all, and yes - you'll end up writing for $0.02/word. Figure out what you have that no one else does, why someone would hire you over anyone else (even if that someone is a very specific niche market) and you can set your own prices.

I say enjoy the position you're in and use it to your advantage.

First, decide what kind of writer you want to be. Copywriting is the most lucrative field. But be sure it's what you want to do.

Writing copy means using words to sell. Read up on this if it interests you. Subscribe to some copywriting blogs, like Michel Fortin's and Ryan Healy's. I think they each use their full name as their blog URL.

If you think you might like it, read some good books on writing copy and learn to do it well.

Offer to do some local work for a reasonable fee and soon you'll be an experienced copywriter.

Even better, write an ebook, learn to write really good sales letters, and sell your own stuff!

The 2-cents-a-word gig is article writing. I hear you can get more than that, but I see a lot of people saying they'd be willing to pay $5 for a thousand articles (that might be an exaggeration, but it's only a tiny exaggeration).

But people who write articles would be able to give you far better advice on that field. It's not the same thing as copywriting.

    Best of luck!

Found links to what I recommended.

    Michel Fortin's blog

    www.michelfortin.com

    Ryan Healy's blog

    Business Growth, Copywriting & Advertising

And, I forgot to mention Ben Settle's blog. You'll never guess the URL. Yup, it is:

    www.bensettle.com

Also, here is a link to a good copywriting book - this is the Amazon sales page:

    AmazonAmazon
There are more resources, but that's all I can come up with off the top of my head.

I also like Anita Ashland's blog on writing emails/autoresponders:

    Hope this is helpful!
